In this role, you will provide academic advising and student services support to the Program in the Environment (PitE) undergraduate program. Duties will consist of event planning, undergraduate student recruiting, website and social media management, and working with both current and prospective students on academic planning. The ability to exercise discretion and judgment to efficiently complete projects in a timely manner is essential. You will report to the Assistant Director of Advising and Student Life.

PitE is a jointly managed program between the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) and the School of Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), that serves 300 majors and 300 minors. PitE is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program that allows students to explore environmental and sustainability issues facing society and develop skills to address and adapt to the associated challenges. The curriculum blends foundational knowledge, skills, and practices from natural sciences, social sciences, humanities. Our staff team is a group of detail-oriented and positive people who are committed to providing enthusiastic support to our students and community. Academic Advising & Student Support

• Advise undergraduate students regarding major and minor requirements, practical experience and research opportunities, and post-graduation options.
• Work with PitE undergraduates on degree requirements, success planning, course selection/registration, and transfer credit evaluation.
• Assist with recruitment and guidance of the PitE/SEAS Accelerated Master's Degree and PitE Honors Programs. 
• Refer students experiencing academic or personal difficulty to the appropriate resources and provide follow up; communicate with faculty to support student success.
• Interpret university, college, and department policies and procedures for undergraduate and graduate students.  
• Work with others on the team to create an inclusive, service-oriented environment for a multicultural student body.

Academic Policies & Procedures

• Continuously review and update advising guidelines, procedures, and processes for improving efficiencies.
• With direction from your supervisor, assist PitE Director including student record maintenance, data analysis, and preparing ad-hoc reports. 
• Assist with the development of student surveys including senior exit survey and student body feedback survey in partnership with Career Services and DEI staff. Review, analyze and report results to Center Staff. 
• Participate in SEAS+PitE Student Center, SDSS & PitE meetings, retreats, and workshops.

Student Programming & Engagement

• Investigate and develop ways to improve content sharing with our students. 
• Support PitE speaker series programming each year, including scheduling facilities, budgeting, outreach, and advertising (posters, emails, social media posts) for these events.
• Liaise with university and non-university organizations for opportunities to collaborate or partner in upcoming events with guidance from the Asst Director as appropriate.
• Develop website and social media features that showcase current students, alumni and faculty.
• Coordinate with the Asst Director the development of the annual PitE Crossroads newsletter by collecting stories to feature about our current students, alumni, and faculty.
• Participate in undergraduate recruitment activities including but not limited to Festifall and Major/Minor Expo.
• Assist in the planning and advertising of PitE student-focused events including ice cream social, pizza with professors, winter warm up, graduation celebration, and other social/community building activities.

• Associate's Degree and 4 or more years of experience advising students, working in an academic unit, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Demonstrated strength in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Experience with e-mail (google), spreadsheets, word processing, and social media
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• Demonstrated customer service experience and commitment to the welfare of students
• Social media management and communications experience
• Knowledge of University of Michigan policies and administrative procedures
• Familiarity with University based applications such as MPathways Student Services modules, Canvas, LSA Advising file and appointment software
