The Peer Community Outreach Facilitator serves as a community liaison / program facilitator for Tiwahe Tewichaglapi / Family Acceptance Project happening on the Pine Ridge Reservation and in Rapid City, SD. The Family Acceptance Project seeks to help families support and affirm their 2SLGBTQ+ youth. The person in this position will serve in both community liaison and program facilitator roles. Duties include providing education and information about the project and about supporting 2SLGBTQ people, and connecting the program to cultural/spiritual values, giving presentations to community partners, hosting feeds and community events, recruitment and enrollment in research studies, and providing recommendations to the research and program teams. Duties will also include providing input on program adaptation and refinement and facilitating the programming to 2SLGBTQ+ youth and/or their caregivers. This is not an exhaustive list of duties, other duties may be assigned as the program is implemented. We seek to hire several individuals on the Pine Ridge Reservation and several individuals and a lead in Rapid City, SD. 

Responsibilities*

 

Community Liaison and Engagement 
40% Duties include providing education and information about the project and about supporting 2SLGBTQ people, and connecting the program to cultural/spiritual values, giving presentations to community partners, hosting feeds and community events, recruitment and enrollment in research studies, and providing recommendations to the research and program teams. 
 

Program Facilitation 
40% Duties include facilitating the programming to 2SLGBTQ+ youth and/or their caregivers. Collecting and analyzing feedback from participants and providing input on program adaptation and refinement.

Child Care

20% Duties may include providing childcare on an as needed basis to children (ages 10 and under) who are not participating in the program. Childcare will be provided in the same facility where the program will be occurring (i.e., caregivers will be on site). Classes will occur during time convenient for families (weekends and evenings), so it is essential that the person in this position have regular availability during this time. 

Job Requirements: 

  • Must have previous experience working with ( and/or lived experience) with the 2SLGBTQ+ community and tribal communities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and public speaking abilities, and the ability to teach skills to others.
  • Commitment to increasing support for 2SLGBTQ+ Native American youth in tribal communities.
     

Required Qualifications*

 
  • High School or Equivalent experience and previous experience working with (and/or lived experience) with the 2SLGBTQ+ community and tribal communities. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, public speaking abilities, and a commitment to bettering the lives of 2SLGBTQ+ Native American youth.  
  • This position may involve traveling to various locations.
  • Be able to address emerging project needs and community engagement strategies and provide information to stakeholders about the project. 
  • Driver's License required.
