4B is a surgical unit specializing in the post operative care of adult patients undergoing major reconstructive and micro vascular procedures as well as neurosurgical procedures in addition to caring for patients with neurological conditions.
The unit has 26 telemetry beds and is the home unit for Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Oral Maxillofacial, Neurosurgical and Neurology services.
Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary approach that includes surgeons, speech and swallowing therapists, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, discharge planners, dieticians and nurses.
The nurse in this role provides excellent supportive direct care to meet the physical, nutritional, emotional, psychosocial and educational needs of the patients and their families. On this unit there is an emphasis on patient and family teaching to ensure a level of comfort and confidence for self care when they are discharged to home.
