Job Summary

 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Office Editorial Assistant to support our continuing legal education programs. This role offers a unique opportunity for those seeking to enhance their legal research and writing skills while gaining hands-on experience in a professional team environment.  This position not only allows for skill enhancement but also provides networking opportunities with Michigan lawyers, making it a valuable experience for aspiring legal professionals.

What You'll Do

 

Perform law clerk duties, including: light legal research; communicating with staff and volunteer lawyers; preparing outlines of educational offerings; reviewing and editing transcripts of educational offerings; preparing and maintaining project spreadsheets. Other clerical duties as assigned.

Responsibilities*

 

95% - Provide assistance to the Director of Publications and Online Resources and staff attorneys in the development and maintenance of online resources:

  • Perform light legal research and procure and sort data as assigned to support educational offerings.
  • Communicate effectively with and assist staff and volunteer lawyers 
  • Prepare comprehensive outlines of educational offerings for various programs.
  • Review and edit transcripts of educational offerings to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Prepare and maintain project spreadsheets to track progress, deadlines, and budget goals.

5% - Assist with other clerical duties as assigned to support the department

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Pending applications to one or more ABA accredited law schools
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to carefully follow directions.
  • Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility in working hours, generally 8:00-5:00 Monday through Friday, with the possibility of working in 2-4 hour blocks.
