Job Summary

 

Must be eligible for Work Study Fall 2024 and/or Winter 2025. These are positions with an off campus agency. 

The Store Organizer position will be responsible for maintaining layout and organization, ensuring books and products are displayed attractively and efficiently. They will work closely with the team to keep the store clean, orderly, and inviting, making it easier for customers to find what they need and enjoy their time in our space. 

The Social Media Manager position will be responsible for developing and executing social media strategies that align with the agency's brand, mission, and goals. They will manage all of the agency's social media accounts, create content, engage with the agency's online community, and track performance to ensure the agency is reaching and resonating with their audience.

Responsibilities*

 

Store Organizer Position

  • Organize and arrange books, merchandise, and displays to create an aesthetically pleasing and accessible store layout.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness throughout the store, including shelves, tables, and seating areas.
  • Assist in receiving and unpacking deliveries, ensuring that new stock is promptly and accurately shelved.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate with the team when stock needs to be replenished.
  • Create and update signage, price tags, and promotional materials as needed.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down for in-store events, ensuring the space is ready for community gatherings.
  • Help customers locate books and products, providing friendly and knowledgeable assistance.
  • Identify areas for improvement in store organization and collaborate with the team to implement changes.
  • Ensure that safety protocols are followed, including keeping walkways clear and properly storing items.

Social Media Manager Position

  • Develop, implement, and manage social media strategies to increase brand awareness and engagement.
  • Create and curate high-quality, relevant, and engaging content across all platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, Tik Tok).
  • Schedule and post content, ensuring consistency in voice, style, and message.
  • Monitor social media channels for comments, messages, and mentions, and respond in a timely and engaging manner.
  • Collaborate with the team to promote events, programs, and special initiatives.
  • Analyze social media performance metrics and provide insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Manage paid social media campaigns, including budget allocation and performance tracking.
  • Engage with influencers, partners, and community members to build relationships and expand our reach.

Required Qualifications*

 

Store Organizer Position

  • Previous experience in retail, inventory management, or organizing is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for visual organization.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes of books and merchandise (up to 25 lbs).
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for books, literature, and community engagement, particularly BIPOC voices.

Social Media Manager Position

  • Proven experience as a Social Media Manager or similar role, preferably in a community-focused or retail environment.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling on-brand content.
  • Creative mindset with a passion for storytelling and community engagement.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer) and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with graphic design and video editing is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for BIPOC literature, art, and activism is highly desireable.

Modes of Work

 

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
