Job Summary

 

The UM-D Environmental Interpretive Center (EIC) is offering a part-time, seasonal, paid position that involves leading groups of school children for educational programs. These nature and science-oriented programs take place outdoors in the campus Environmental Study Area.  

Minimum availability 3 weekdays per week, 5 hours per day, 9AM to 2PM. 

January 24th through June 16, 2025,  potential for continued employment in the following academic term. Employment could lead to an internal internship or fellowship opportunity at the EIC.
 

Training is provided by experienced EIC naturalist staff and student program leaders.

Required Qualifications*

 

  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Interest in nature and comfortable working outdoors in sometimes challenging field conditions
  • Some level of familiarity with field identification and ecology of local Michigan flora and fauna
  • Knowledge of ecological processes and concepts
  • Positive attitude 
  • Comfortable working with children

Desired Qualifications*

 

  • Enrolled in the Environmental Science Program 
  • Work study eligible students preferred
  • Knowledge of Michigan flora and fauna
