Responsibilities*

 

This position may be primarily located in Toledo and remote. Some limited work may be in Ypsilanti and Detroit.

Thi individual in this position will support diabetes prevention programs. They will interact and engage with a wide variety of the local Toledo, OH community health organizations including faith communities, on behalf of the research team at the University of Michigan. Meeting with community members and organizations to plan and implement health promotion events. Help develop and distribute marketing materials for community health events. Attend community events to share information about the project. The duites will include recruitment and enrollment in research studies, collecting data, health education, data entry and sharing process to to the research team based in Ann Arbor, MI.

Hours will vary and may include weekends, evenings, in addition to normal business hours. Expected 10 - 20 hours/week.

Supervision is provided by the primary investigator.

  • Meet with community members and faith communities to plan and implement community health events.
  • Assist with or independently provide health education in diabetes and chronic disease prevention in faith communities and other community settings.
  • Attend community events to engage with community members, share information about the project.
  • Maintain ongoing engagement with study participants to support program planning and implementation.
  • Administrative - attending meetings, interviews, and compiling notes.
  • Protocol development - assist with developing project protocol.
  • Data collection.
  • Data entry.
  • Have EXCELLENT interpersonal skills to respectfully and meaningfully connect with community members and community organizations.
  • The candidate will be supervised but will need to be able to do some ad hoc problem solving and decision making when potential unexpected issues arise.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • High school diploma or equivlent experience.
  • EXCELLENT interpersonal skills and willingness/eagerness to learn about community and school based research.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ethical training in research.
  • Must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work variable hours including a minimum of 10 hours a week during busy project times.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Prefer coursework or bachelor's degree in nursing, community health, public health, social work, or a related field plus on (1) year of experience doing similar work. The ideal candidate will have experience with community and faith-based research and/or working in community settings in any capacity.
  • Familiarity with qualitative software (Dedoose, Nvivo).
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics survey software.
  • Experience with manuscript writing.
