Job Summary

 

The Office of Research Integrity and Compliance is seeking a highly responsible and skilled Compliance Specialist to provide support for the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) Conflict of Interest (COI) Review Programs. The position requires excellent attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage competing high priority tasks. The position will report to the COI Director.

Responsibilities*

 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform annual and outstanding reviews of certain federally sponsored projects to ensure compliance with the federal sponsor COI regulations.
  • Perform annual, updated, and outstanding disclosure reviews and triage appropriate information to the COI team, the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP), Innovation Partnerships, departments, etc. to ensure compliance with federal sponsor COI regulations.
  • Conduct annual UMOR COI management plan and Institutional COI (ICOI) case reviews and report results to the appropriate committee.
  • Lead the effort to enhance the monitoring and compliance program for COI management plans.
  • Organize and manage the UMOR COI Review Committee, the Institutional COI (ICOI) Committee, and COI Council membership, minutes, agendas, websites, etc.
  • Assist in processing Regental Action Requests to comply with the State of Michigan law.
  • Participate in collaboration meetings between UMOR COI, Medical School COI Office, Information Technology Services, ORSP, etc., as needed, for process improvements and system enhancements.
  • Assist in revisions of policies, templates, procedures, and websites.
  • Manage and assist in special projects, as needed.
  • Serve as backup for other COI staff, as needed.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree or four years of equivalent experience demonstrating advanced training in critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible administrative experience.
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team along with the proven ability to self-start, show initiative.
  • Ability to initiate activities and carry them through to completion as well as the flexibility to change focus and priorities quickly.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse audiences, faculty and staff, in units that vary greatly in size and organizational structure.
  • Ability to navigate complex web-based systems and databases
  • Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive information with a demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and diplomacy.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and dependability are essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and University rules and regulations (including but not limited to research, technology transfer, personnel, and regulatory compliance).
  • Experience reviewing complex regulations.
