Job Summary

 

The Program in Research and Innovation on Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes (PRIMO), housed within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology seeks an experienced, certified Ultrasound Technologist to join our fast-growing obstetrics research team. The ideal candidate will assist on obstetrical health research projects and must have previous experience with a maternal/pregnancy population and at least 5 years of obstetrical imaging. This person will be key in providing sonographer experience, insight and support. This position may also assist with approaching pregnant and laboring women for recruitment, obtaining informed consent, collection and recording of data and supporting research providers.  This position requires a flexible schedule and ability to work at various Michigan Medicine locations.

Responsibilities*

 

General Obstetrics Ultrsonography

  • Independently performs maternal ultrasound examinations per study protocols
  • Conduct transvaginal ultrasounds on pregnant population
  • Obtain cervical length measurements
  • Operate specialized research devices and equipment related to obstetrics ultrasounds
  • Provide expert ultrasound guidance and advice for ultrasound device development

Cardio-obstetrics Ultrasonography 

  • Independently performs adult echocardiography and vascular ultrasonography in a maternal population
  • Performs maternal echocardiography examinations per study protocols
  • Operate research devices and equipment related to echocardiography 

Comprehensive Ultrasonography 

  • Order, maintain and procure necessary supplies and equipment for ultrasounds
  • Monitors and address patient needs during ultrasounds
  • Presents study and examination results to physicians
  • Responsible for image capture, download and backups
  • Review ultrasound images for quality assurance
  • Schedules and coordinator tests and prepares operational logs
  • Setting up, maintaining and calibrating equipment
  • Cleaning probes and equipment

Study Reporting 

  • Maintains documentation as required including research files, performs data entry, and completes paperwork needed for procedures/processes.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Review of medical records and input information into data base
  • Assists study coordinator with various research duties when needed.

Participant screening/recruitment 

  • Reviewing real time medical records to match potential research participants with inclusion/exclusion criteria for active studies
  • Approaching laboring women, giving study overview, while being sensitive to environment and patients involved.
  • Explaining study thoroughly, reviewing informed consent, answering any questions, following GCP/IRB and obtaining consent

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Graduation from an ultrasonographic training program. 
  • Registered (or Registry Eligible) with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Obstetrics & Gynecology (RDMS)
  • Proficient in Adult Echocardiogram and Vascular ultrasonography.
  • Must have at least seven-years of experience in maternal/obstetrical ultrasounds.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • 5+ years performing ultrasounds in on obstetrical population
  • Registered (or Registry Eligible) with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Obstetrics and Gynecology (RDMS)
  • Registered (or Registry Eligible) with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Adult Echocardiography (RDCS) 
  • Registered (or Registry Eligible) with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Vascular Technology (RVT) 
  • Multiple years performing ultrasound cervical length measurements
  • Previous experience with electronic medical record such as MiChart
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite 

Work Schedule

 

General hours are Mon-Fri within the 7am-5:30pm range depending on the study needs. 

Work Locations

 
  • Primary location is at the main medical campus in University Hospital South (UH South); with regular work activities at VonVoigtlander Women?s Hospital. 
  • This position may include some travel to Michigan Medicine clinical sites such as West Ann Arbor.
