Responsibilities*

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate CRNA education programs, staff orientation programs, in-service education, and staff development.
  • Assist the Chief CRNA in implementation of quality patient standards and guidelines in compliance with all departmental policies.
  • Advise Chief CRNA in the establishment of priorities for CRNA educational initiatives regarding current anesthesia practice and guideline requirements.
  • Design and implement education programs to meet accreditation and practices standards. Participate in the formal and informal instruction of CRNA staff and students.
  • Coordinate in-service education in congruence with Chief CRNA and Senior Nurse Anesthetist.
  • Utilize creative education sessions, including simulation center, using adult learning methods and integrating team building.
  • Provide collaborative and consultant support to other hospital disciplines including surgical, medical, peri-operative and post-operative services.
  • Develop creative education sessions using adult learning methods and integrating team building.
  • Develop and maintain systems to document the results of educational programs.
  • Provide leadership in the practice of CRNA education, emphasizing quality patient care, service, education and research consistent with institutional mission and goal statements.
  • Assist and advise CRNA colleagues in annual evaluation and development and implementation of educational goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Joint Commission Standards, ASA and AANA Standards, and all state and federal regulations.
  • Create, manage, and obtain CE credit for the CRNA educational activities.
  • Professionally assist the Chief Nurse Anesthetist in the orientation, supervision, and management of the activities of SRNAs.
  • Participate in the evaluation, counseling, coaching and/or mentoring of the aforementioned personnel.
  • Create and manage schedules for SRNAs.
  • Professionally assist the Chief Nurse Anesthetist in delivering clear and timely communications while also leveraging human resource management tools such as employee recognition.
  • Report to the Chief CRNA at CW; position will have a clinical component.
  • Provide anesthesia (to all patients regardless of age) and anesthesia related care to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical procedures under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist.
  • Prepare preoperative assessments including health histories and physical examinations.
  • Develop the Anesthesia Care Plan together with the anesthesiologist.
  • Initiate and maintain appropriate perioperative anesthesia care.
  • Maintain appropriate patient records including quality assurance documentation. Complete postoperative evaluations in accordance with department policies. Function in accordance with all institutional policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain licensure, certification and current BLS, PALS, and ACLS status.
  • Quality assurance and research:
  • Participate in planning, coordinating and evaluating unit quality improvement activities.
  • Promote the integration of research findings into clinical practice by CRNA staff.
  • Promote staff involvement in clinical research, as applicable.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Current and accurate resume and application must be completed.
  • Doctorate of Nursing Practice or Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice.
  • Current Michigan RN license and certification as a nurse anesthetist.
  • Five (5) years FTE of nurse anesthesia experience.
  • Current ACLS or PALS certification.
  • Previous teaching/precepting experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles of adult learning/education.

Hours: 0.9FTE Exempt Position 
Shift: Day/Evenings
Unit: Pediatric Anesthesiology 
  • Please note: This position will involve 0.4FTE of administrative time and 0.5FTE of clinical time; this ratio may vary depending on the needs of the department.
  • Variable shift start/end times and shift length.
  • Subject to change with variable OR activity.
