Responsibilities*

 
  • Inspect, analyze, and repair malfunctions in fire alarm systems including zone and point addressable types. 
  • Modify fire alarm systems by the addition or deletion of circuit boards, smoke detectors, pull stations, strobes, speakers, or horns, and make changes to the software of the fire alarm panel to reflect these changes. 
  • Perform periodic tests on fire alarm, fire suppression, and fire control systems. 
  • Perform maintenance on fire suppression systems including CO2, Halon, and dry chemical. 
  • Maintain the alarm reporting system including installing and programming remote terminal units and maintaining a database of alarm points. 
  • Maintain the central clock systems including the installation, maintenance, programming, and testing of transmitters, clock code converters, master clocks, and system clocks for carrier, sync wired, and impulse systems.

RELATED DUTIES 

  • Coordinate maintenance and testing with building occupants. 
  • Participate in the periodic testing of sprinkler systems including using voltmeters and ammeters to take readings on booster pump motors. 
  • Participate in the installation of new fire alarm and fire control systems by reviewing drawings, communicating with contractors, performing shutdowns, and assisting with acceptance testing. 
  • Cut, bend, and route conduit lines, and pull wire through conduit by means of fish tape. 
  • Connect wiring to fire alarm panels and related fixtures including smoke detectors, pull stations, strobes, speakers and horns. 
  • Participate in designing and connecting air handler shutdown circuits to fire alarm systems including specifying the fire alarm equipment necessary and making the connections to the fire alarm. 
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, diagrams, sketches, schematics, and job specifications. 
  • Maintain records of design, installation, maintenance, testing, repair and other related activities and services.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Graduation from high school and specialized training in fire alarm electrical and electronic work is necessary. 
  • Considerable experience in the maintenance and repair of all types of fire alarm, fire suppression, and fire control equipment is necessary. 
  • Reasonable experience in the design and installation of fire alarm, fire suppression, and fire control equipment is necessary. 
  • Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods and materials involved in electrical and electronic work is necessary. 
  • A Fire Alarm Technician License issued by the State of Michigan Fire Safety Board is necessary. 
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints, sketches and schematic diagrams is necessary

Work Schedule

 

* Monday - Friday 5:00 - 13:30

Please note:  This position may need to work on-call and overtime to respond to afterhours emergencies.
