Job Summary

This position reports to the Director of ECRT/Title IX Coordinator and supports the daily operations of the ECRT Office. In this role, the Assistant Director is responsible for receiving, evaluating and investigating allegations of impermissible discrimination involving University students, faculty and staff.

The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director and a variety of campus partners to ensure thorough investigative processes and maintain compliance with applicable equal opportunity and nondiscrimination clauses, policies and laws, including campus policies such as the Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct and Discrimination and Harassment policies.

The Assistant Director is also responsible for assisting in the campus' affirmative action and equal employment opportunity programs and identifying trends as well as recommending strategies for a more diverse, inclusive, respectful and welcoming working and learning environment. This position will also assist in the compilation of compliance reports, as well as conduct trainings and work collaboratively with Student Affairs, Office of the General Counsel, the Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX office in Ann Arbor, Academic Affairs as well as other departments, including the Department of Public Safety, local law enforcement and schools in the campus community.

Responsibilities*

  • Review, investigate and document allegations and charges of discrimination and harassment received from students, faculty and staff, through both formal and informal processes; prepare written investigation reports, maintain files and case status database, ensure timely submission and confidentiality.
  • Provide department or organization climate reviews related to concerns of discrimination, harassment, or unfair treatment, in conjunction with Human Resources and appropriate leadership.
  • Provide consultation and resolution of faculty, staff and student ADA concerns or complaints for the campus.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources on implementation and review of processes related to recruitment and hiring to facilitate diverse candidate pools.
  • Investigate and report findings related to student, faculty and staff complaints and charges of alleged sexual harassment and discrimination through informal and formal dispute resolution processes.
  • Act as an impartial party during investigations. Analyze and prepare detailed reports of the investigative findings.
  • Prepare required written reports, monitor goal achievement and activities to ensure the University's, as well as federal and state, compliance.
  • Provide regular and ad hoc data and information analysis to UM-Flint senior staff to aid in decision-making.
  • Review and deliver campus-wide educational programming and training that promotes equity and inclusiveness on campus; this includes providing information, consultation and resources to the campus community with regard to diversity, sexual harassment and discrimination prevention, affirmative action, equal opportunity and disability matters.
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings as required, including those held on the Ann Arbor campus.
  • Provide consultation and counsel on a wide range of institutional equity and diversity/ADA issues to senior leadership and deans.
  • Acts as a proxy for the Director as needed in their absence.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study.
  • Five or more years of experience conducting investigations, including preparation, analysis and determination of findings, to complaints of sexual harassment and discrimination.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the regulations, laws and requirements involving federal and state non-discrimination/Civil Rights, Affirmative Action, Title IX and ADA.
  • Proven technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, as evidenced by examples beyond entry level skills resulting in the ability to be immediately effective and the proven ability to analyze data and trends to provide sound findings and recommendations for improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting training and identifying resources for students, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in relevant software and tools for report writing and creating and presenting trainings.

Modes of Work

Hybrid:

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
