Job Summary

 

Office of International Affairs (OIA) is seeking two UM-Dearborn students to serve as peer advisors.  The start date will be determined.  Peer advisors serve in support roles for all functions of OIA.  This position includes clerical and project work in the OIA.  Students in this position will have the opportunity to apply their communication, customer service, and organizational skills to a demanding work environment.  Peer advisors can gain first-hand office experience in a diverse environment and foster connections with the campus community.  The candidate will work 10-15 hours per week.

 

Office Responsibilities

Answer email inquiries from students, parents, university partners, and faculty
Staff the reception desk and answer the phone periodically during lunch breaks and other times as needed
Support advisors by the process via Sunapsis and Case management
Work on individual projects based on interests (i.e. social media, website content, data collection)
Assist staff with additional tasks and needed
Special projects are assigned

 

Required Qualifications

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Excellent organization and communication skills
Ability to take initiative and maintain student confidentiality
Work well with a team and autonomously to serve as a point person for specific projects
Strong communication and customer service skills
Demonstrated ability to remain flexible, positive, and organized
Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse groups

 

Eligibility

OIA Peer Advisor positions are open to all UM-Dearborn students
Preference for students who know about international student admissions and visa processing
Preference for students who can work at OIA for at least three semesters. 

Modes of Work

 

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
