Job Summary

 

Must be eligible for Work Study Fall 2024. This is a position with an off campus agency. The Marketing Assistant will aid the Marketing Specialist and the Development/Marketing and Communications Department in the day-to-day execution of internal and external marketing and communications projects. This role enhances public perception and awareness of the off campus agency's mission through print and digital story telling. The Marketing Assistant will help with the production and dissemination of a variety of marketing materials with a focus on increasing brand recognition and expanding donor engagement. This role will also participate in fundraising events and act as a liaison to other departments within the off campus agency, local businesses and community groups.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Participate in maintaining a communications calendar encompassing all internal and external communications and platforms including print, digital, social and public media.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of social media campaigns including creating the content and maintaining the off campus agency's presence on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
  • Assist with the coordination of messaging, promotional materials and record keeping for the successful execution of the Holiday Campaign, March Against Hunger, Hunger Action Month, special events and other campaigns as directed.
  • Support marketing objectives by securing pictures, client stories, and documenting results from Outreach, corporate and organizational activities.
  • Promote and provide marketing support to individuals, groups, and the Outreach team to Peer-to-Peer fundraising and other cause marketing endeavors.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records for all community engagement activities in the appropriate data bases and department files.
  • Participate in preparing reports on progress, budgets, expenditures, etc. for Feeding America or off campus agency's as assigned.
  • Assist the Development Department with data entry support as requested.
  • Assists in creating and maintaining departmental SOPs.
  • Work collaboratively with all off campus agency's departments to ensure the web site content is updated at least quarterly and assist with their communication needs.
  • Know and adhere to organizational policies and procedures, and work as an integral member of the development team. 
  • Keep current in emerging trends and skills related to digital and social media marketing to maintain best practices in marketing and communications efforts. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Regularly uses close and distance vision. Works at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time. 
  • Conditions may include working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions as needed, working extended or irregular hours, and will travel to/from events as needed.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • General interest in a Marketing/Communications position required. 
  • Valid Michigan's Driver's License. successfully pass a background screening. 
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required. 
  • Proficiency in Adobe design software, Microsoft Publisher, and/or Canva highly preferred. 
  • Displays strong writing and proofreading skills and excellent attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate well to all constituents, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands. 
  • Strong self-motivator, exercises good judgment, and ability to work as a team member. 
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Must be physically able to assist with event setup and breakdown, including lifting up to 30 lbs. regularly and 50 lbs. on occasion. 

Desired Qualifications*

 

Previous volunteer or work experience with fundraising and non-profit organizations preferred.

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
