Job Summary

 

Note: Flu program begins in September and operates 7 days per week thru December. However, most work is performed on weekdays between 8am- 5pm.

Hourly wage: $30.00/hour

Responsibilities*

 

This position is responsible for providing immunizations to adult and pediatric patients, per established protocols, based on the nursing process, and vaccine manufacturer guidelines. Registered Nurses are responsible for using technology and equipment according to department expectations and policies.  Additional responsibilities include:

  • Managing the clinic site, leading the clinic team, and controlling clinic supplies/inventory.
  • Assists with set-up and break down of clinic area.
  • Refers to the Clinic Notebook (containing the signed physician's order for vaccine immunizations and emergency treatment as well as all protocols and procedures) as needed.
  • Confirms that all systems are in place before beginning to see patients.
  • Documents immunization administration, allergies and deferral reasons in MiChart on site at clinic location. 

Required Qualifications*

 
  •         Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
  •         Successful completion of a program in nursing
  •         6 months of acute nursing experience or equivalent
  •         Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association. 
  •          Experience with electronic medical records (MiChart). 
  •         Clear understanding/ability to learn to access Wi-Fi and/or cellular network on laptop computer.
  •         Proficient in IM injection technique
  •         Ability to work autonomously in a non-structured environment.
  •          Valid Driver's License
  •         Reliable transportation with the ability to travel from point A to point B throughout the workday as assigned.

Work Schedule

 

Temporary, Seasonal. Interested applicants should apply only if they are reasonably confident they will be available to work September - December.  The number of hours available varies per week based on programmatic needs.  Program runs 7 days per week, but most work is on weekdays between 8am-5pm.

This position is located at various off-site clinics throughout southeast Michigan.

UNIT-BASED TEMPORARY NURSE GUIDELINES
* Unit-based temporary employee working three or more shifts per scheduling period will be scheduled to work a minimum of two weekend shifts per scheduling period (8 hours = 1 shift). The contractual definition of a weekend applies for temporary employees.* Unit-based temporary nurses who preschedule two or fewer shifts per scheduling period do not
have to meet the weekend requirements.
* Each unit-based temporary nurse will be expected to work a portion of scheduled shifts on off shifts (recommended guide: 25%).
* Each unit-based temporary nurse will be scheduled to work the number of shifts during holiday weeks that reflect his/her normal scheduling pattern. Temporary nurses should be scheduled to work shifts during three out of the six holiday weeks and one of these weeks should be Christmas or New Year's week. (A week is defined as Sunday through Saturday during which the holiday falls).
* Unit-based temporary nurses are to be scheduled after all regular staff are scheduled per contract language.
* Managers may establish additional guidelines based upon individual unit scheduling requirements

Background Screening

 

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
