The Department of Psychiatry at Michigan Medicine stands at the forefront of health care, providing top-tier patient care with a strong emphasis on specialized services for children and adolescents. As part of our dedication to comprehensive care, we are expanding our Child and Adolescent Hospital Services within C.S. Mott Children?s Hospital to include an Adolescent Partial Hospital Program tailored to young patients with intensive mental health needs. This program reinforces our commitment to address the full spectrum of emotional, behavioral, and developmental disorders with compassion and expertise.

We seek an Administrative Manager who will take a leadership role in enhancing and supporting the expansion of the Child and Adolescent Hospital Services. The first two years will focus on the establishment, implementation, and operationalization of our Adolescent Partial Hospital Program. Long-term this person will continue to implement expanded services across the continuum of care and oversee child and adolescent hospital services. Collaborating closely with the Medical Director and a multidisciplinary leadership team, this role entails crafting and realizing operational plans that ensure safety, foster constant improvement, and embrace a patient-centered, value-driven model of care. The Administrative Manager will be instrumental in establishing guidelines, standardizing procedures, monitoring key metrics, and ensuring a nurturing and safe environment for our child and adolescent patients.

Responsibilities*

 

Growth and Support of Hospital Child and Adolescent Operations

  • Develop and implement objectives for Child and Adolescent Hospital Services expansion, especially focusing on the success of the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program.
  • Analyze data related to patient flow, and the achievement of targeted goals, ensuring optimal operation of the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program.
  • Organize clinical schedules to align with the increased demand of the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program, managing staff workload and providing responsive support.
  • Inform and coordinate process improvements based on Lean principles, ensuring the seamless integration of the day program into the existing care framework.
  • Hire, lead, and support personnel, oversee scheduling initiatives, and deploy cost-management strategies while expanding services.
  • Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders in Psychiatry and C. S. Mott Children's Hospital, particularly as it relates to the integration and support of the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program.
  • Plan, initiate, and manage the rollout of new services and program enhancements, staying ahead of the evolving needs of child and adolescent mental health care, both locally and regionally.
  • Act as a liaison with external partners and programs, advocating for the unique needs of young patients in behavioral health settings.
  • Uphold compliance with all relevant standards, anticipating and addressing the specific requirements of child and adolescent care environments.
  • Engage with leadership to evaluate and improve child hospital services and the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program, keeping safety and regulatory preparedness at the forefront.
  • Following the implementation of the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program, this role will provide ongoing administrative and operational support for other Child Psychiatry Hospital Services, including the Child and Adolescent hospital inpatient unit, and the Child Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison service, in partnership with clinical leadership.

Quality Improvement

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, particularly within the initiation  of the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program, to ensure high-quality care and patient safety.
  • Mentor staff in incorporating quality improvement methods, including applying lean principles to child and adolescent mental health care delivery.

Customer Service

  • Actively manage patient satisfaction within Child and Adolescent Hospital Services, with a distinct focus on the perceptions and experiences of those engaging with the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program.
  • Address and mediate concerns from patients and their families, aiming for swift and empathetic resolution, particularly for those in the day program.

Facilities

  • Supervise the upkeep of Child and Adolescent Hospital Services facilities, with particular emphasis in the first two years on the construction, build-out and operations for the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program prioritizing safety and comfort.
  • Collaborate on evaluating and progressing physical and operational projects to optimize and expand the delivery of care within the Child and Adolescent Hospital Services within C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.

Regulatory

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory and safety standards including CMS, Joint Commission, Recipient Rights, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with departmental and institutional partners to continuously identify and mitigate regulatory and safety risks .

Financial

  • Participate in the budgeting and financial management of Child and Adolescent Hospital Services, with attention to the fiscal demands of operationalizing and sustaining a high-caliber Adolescent Partial Hospital Program.
  • Monitor variance reports and other financial performance indicators to ensure operations remain within budget.
  • Manage staffing resources within budgeted FTE and payroll expense parameters.

Required Qualifications*

 

Admin Manager Intermediate Healthcare:   

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of supervisory/management experience in a healthcare setting. 
  • Demonstrated leadership with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  

 

Admin Manager Associate Healthcare:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Supervisory/management experience in a healthcare setting. 
  • Demonstrated leadership with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Master's Degree with extensive management experience.
  • 5-10 years of leadership experience, preferably in child and adolescent health care settings.
  • Data management and reporting skills, with emphasis on behavioral health programs. 
  • Experience as a Lean Coach or in leading process improvement projects within a clinical setting. 
  • Knowledge of Ambulatory and Hospital Care and child and adolescent psychiatric operations, particularly day treatment or partial hospitalization programs. 
  • Proficiency with Michigan Medicine applications such as MiChart, Wolverine Access, Cornerstone learning.

Work Schedule

 

Primarily Monday-Friday, with the possibility of some weekends as needed

Work Locations

 

University Hospital and Ypsilanti Health Center - location will be primarily onsite, however, there may be some flexibility for remote work as job needs dictate.

Additional Information

 

Supervision Received: Reports to the Hospital Services Administrator, coordinated through the Medical Director and Program Director. This position will also have a dotted line reporting structure and meet regularly with C.S. Mott Hospital leadership.


Supervision Exercised: Directly supervises clerical staff and other roles central to the operation of the Child and Adolescent Hospital Services and the Adolescent Partial Hospital Program.

Background Screening
