Job Summary

 

French Instructor (Intermittent Lecturer) for RCLANG 290 for the Fall 2024

The Residential College French Program is seeking to hire an intermittent lecturer to teach one discussion section of Intensive French II for the fall 2024.

RCLANG 290 discussion sections, made up of a maximum of 15 students, are primarily devoted to developing speaking skills and cultural literacy. Most lessons are based on the class textbook which proposes a dialectical approach to the exploration of themes pertaining to contemporary French society and the French speaking world. Class discussions are supplemented with reading and listening activities. RCLANG 290 classes meet four (4) times a week (M, T, Th, F) 11:00 to 11:50 AM.

Responsibilities*

 

The instructor is expected: 

  • to design lesson plans based on the course textbook and the syllabus which is provided; 
  • to grade written assignments (essays);
  • to contribute to mid-term and end-of-term written and oral exams; 
  • to contribute to the drafting of mid-term and end-of-term written evaluations;
  • to be available two hours per week for office hours;
  • to participate in the programs co-curricular activities (lunch tables) once a week.
  • to attend and contribute to course and program meetings.
  • to work closely with the course coordinator to monitor students progress. 
     

Required Qualifications*

 

Native or near-native proficiency in French and proven teaching experience.

Desired Qualifications*

 

Preference will be given to instructors familiar with the Communicative Method, but also experienced in teaching at the college level.

Additional Information

 

Lecturer compensation:

33.33% appointment in the Fall 2024 term (August 26th, 2024 to December 31st, 2024)

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
