Job Summary

The Mosalaganti lab at the Life Sciences Institute (LSI) is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral research fellow interested in applying multimodal imaging workflows and multi-omics analyses to understand cell biology of lysosomal heterogeneity. You will have unencumbered access to our state-of-the-art light and electron microscopy on-site and various excellent core facilities at the University of Michigan. You should have the following: (1) a strong background in computational biology/cell biology/neurobiology. (2) a sense of independence, and (3) be motivated to push the boundaries of cell biology. You will report directly to Dr. Mosalaganti and perform your work onsite at the LSI.

Responsibilities*

Experimental responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying and characterizing proteins responsible for lysosomal susceptibility and resilience in models of neurodegeneration.
  • Conduct biochemical assays including western blot, transcriptomics, immunoprecipitation of proteins and organelles (e.g., lysosomes), quantitative proteomics analyses, fluorescence microscopy, and in vivo/in vitro enzyme assays.
  • Maintain and amplify iPSC-derived neurons, microglia, and astrocytes and analyze physiological and biochemical data from brain tissue samples.
  • Generate brain organoids and assembloids.

Non-Experimental responsibilities will include:

  • Work with PI to apply for independent research funding.
  • Work/collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in and outside of the laboratory.
  • Mentor undergraduates and graduate students in the laboratory.
  • Assist PI with writing manuscripts and grants.

Required Qualifications*

  • Ph.D. in cell biology, neurobiology, genetics, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with light and confocal microscopy (imaging/data processing)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with primary cultures or stem cells
  • Familiarity with CRISPR/Cas9 and molecular biology/cloning
  • 2 years of experience in analyzing 'omics' datasets
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Excellent communication skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in organellar biology, specifically the endolysosomal system
  • 1-2 years of experience in generating cortical/cerebral organoids

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
