Pharmacist in Charge responsibilities (PIC):
This position will assume the Pharmacist-in-Charge role overseeing the handling and security of medications for the Troy Center for Specialty Care building during the planning and opening stages. The duties of the PIC include, but are not limited to, the following:
Supervision of all activities of pharmacy employees as they relate to the practice of pharmacy including the purchasing, storage, compounding, repackaging, dispensing, and distribution of drugs and devices to ensure that those activities are performed in compliance with this part and the rules promulgated under this part. This includes the oversight of sterile compounding and cleanroom operations, to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Enforcement and oversight of policies and procedures applicable to the employees of the pharmacy for the procurement, storage, compounding, and dispensing of drugs and the communication of information to the patient in relation to drug therapy.
Establishment and supervision of the method and manner for storage and safekeeping of pharmaceuticals, including maintenance of security provisions to be used when the pharmacy is closed.
Establishment and supervision of the record-keeping system for the purchase, sale, delivery, possession, storage, and safekeeping of drugs and devices.
Establishment of policies and procedures for individuals who are delegated responsibilities for any of the tasks described in this subsection by the PIC.
Clinical Pharmacist Generalist job duties include:
Community Pharmacy Services:
Review, clarify, and process medication orders in a timely manner while assuring appropriateness of therapy.
Perform medication reconciliation on each set of prescription orders to facilitate a smooth transition of care to the outpatient community setting.
Provide patient counseling, Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services, and administer immunizations.
Provide functional supervision of technical staff working in their area, including completion of job assignments and assuring adherence to institutional policies and procedures.
Serve as preceptors for University of Michigan Pharm.D. students on a variety of rotations, including medication reconciliation, direct patient care, Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) during the second- and third years, and institutional unit-based hospital practice, Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) during the fourth year. In addition, pharmacists will assist with precepting pharmacy residents, including the PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Resident and the PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residents.
Collaborate with nursing, social work, providers, pharmacists, and others to optimize patient care.
Assist with problem-solving and process improvements within the pharmacy.
Other duties and projects assigned by the manager to facilitate safe and efficient patient care.
Infusion and OR Pharmacy Services:
- Review, clarify, and process medication orders in a timely manner while assuring appropriateness of therapy.
- Dispensing and checking of sterile product preparations.
- Hosting in-services for nursing education.
- Dispense investigational study medications and clinical order verifications.
- Ensuring optimal effectiveness and safety of medications used throughout the institution.
- Serve as preceptors for University of Michigan Pharm.D. students on a variety of rotations.
- Providing accurate and timely drug information
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary health care team members

Teaching:

Quality Improvement:
Pharmacists provide input and suggestions for process improvements to improve the care that is provided to our patients. Activities include researching opportunities and initiating action plans with follow through until successful implementation of the improvement.
