Job Summary

 

The Patient Care Tech Associate (PCTA) plays a key role in supporting outpatient radiology operations by providing clerical assistance while delivering excellent customer service to patients and providers.This role includes assisting technologists with radiology exams, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and maintaining efficient workflow within the department.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clerical support in an outpatient setting, including patient check-in, reading room coordination, and communication
  • Deliver a high level of customer service to patients, families, and providers
  • Assist technologists during imaging procedures
  • Safely lift, move, and transport patients using wheelchairs and stretchers
  • Support patient preparation, including changing and providing clear instructions for exams
  • Draw up and administer IV contrast and dispense oral contrast as directed for imaging procedures
  • Stock and maintain supplies to ensure readiness of exam rooms

Clerical Support
1.    Answer phone calls and direct inquiries appropriately.
2.    Utilize proper telephone etiquette when transferring and managing calls.
3.    Perform patient check-in within the Radiology department, including after-hours procedures.
4.    Accurately enter patient, study, and provider information into Epic/Radiant systems.
5.    Coordinate and schedule radiology procedures.
6.    Coordinate operations within the reading rooms Including assigning studies and working within Sectra
7.    Maintain and update departmental manuals and workflow documentation.
8.    Perform chaperone duties as required.
9.    Demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and teamwork.
10.    Share information and resources effectively with team members.
11.    Work independently in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
12.    Adapt to schedule changes to meet patient care and operational needs.
13.    Demonstrate dependability, initiative, and the ability to prioritize and follow direction.
14.    Promote patient comfort and convenience by routinely checking on patients and families.
MiChart / Radiant Support
1.    Accurately enter patient information into the Radiant system.
2.    Arrive, begin, and complete studies within Radiant.
3.    Enter and verify patient allergies in MiChart and Radiant.
4.    Document IV placement in MiChart.
5.    Retrieve and review patient lab results in MiChart.
6.    Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in the medical record.
Assist Technologists
1.    Assist with lifting, moving, and positioning patients for examinations.
2.    Monitor patients to ensure safety throughout procedures.
3.    Retrieve necessary supplies and equipment for procedures.
4.    Remain attentive until examinations are completed.
5.    Verify correct patient and procedure using ?Time Out? protocols.
6.    Review patient questionnaires to support procedure safety.
7.    Follow instructions accurately regarding patient care and workflow.
8.    Communicate patient concerns or safety issues to technologists.
9.    Administer oral and IV contrast as directed for imaging procedures.
10.    Maintain knowledge of radiation safety and complete required training.
Equipment & Supply Maintenance
1.    Report equipment malfunctions to leadership or the charge technologist.
2.    Clean exam rooms and equipment per established protocols.
3.    Stock rooms with linens and necessary supplies.
4.    Check emergency equipment daily.
5.    Maintain inventory of IV supplies and carts.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • BLS certification is a requirement of this role. If not certified, candidates must be BLS certified within 6 months of hire. 
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Basic Anatomy knowledge.
     

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Radiation Safety knowledge.
  • 2 years of patient care experience
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques, infection control, and universal precautions.
  • Medical terminology and experience preferred.
  • Maintain proper attendance.
     

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

 

Part-time 24 hrs/week
Every Fri/Sat/Sun 8hr shifts start time is anywhere from 630am-8am dependent on needs. 
 

Training Schedule: Over appointment hours for training.  Epic training is only offered on certain days and that is mandatory to attend.  2 days.  
Day shift training until finished and ready to be on own.
