Appointment details

  • This is a part-time position with a negotiable schedule of 20-32 hours per week.
  • The specific number of weekly hours will be mutually determined with the selected candidate.
  • The salary will be prorated accordingly based on the posted full-time salary of $60,000.

You will serve as a key contributor to the University of Michigan Engineering digital presence by updating content, improving SEO and usability, and ensuring all platforms adhere to high standards of accessibility and functionality set by the Office of Communications & Marketing (C&M). In doing so, you will help support the College's Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategies.

  • Update outdated content, including correcting broken links, fixing content errors, and ensuring information is current and accurate.
  • Ensure all web properties meet University and federal accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1AA).
  • Based on provided content guidelines and keywords, identify SEO/GEO/Accessibility (search- and generative- engine optimization) issues, propose solutions, and implement appropriate resolutions.
  • Ensure content matches branding, voice and tone guidelines.

Content Best Practices & Standards Implementation (30%)

  • Lead the implementation of both incremental web updates and broader improvement recommendations, serving as the primary point of contact for stakeholder engagement.
  • Provide technical rationale and updates on project milestones to stakeholder units.
  • Evaluate various courses of action for site improvements, consult with C&M experts, and make independent decisions within the scope of responsibilities.
  • Work with a project manager to balance priorities and timelines across multiple projects.

Training & Consultation / Project Administration (20%)

  • Direct and train unit partners on web content best practices.
  • Tailor existing documentation and guidelines to help others without web expertise maintain high-quality design, accessibility, SEO/GEO and communication standards.
  • Stay abreast of new developments in web accessibility and implement proactive recommendations to maintain compliance.

A successful candidate will have the ability to adapt to and thrive in an environment filled with change. They should love giving and receiving thoughtful feedback, and not be afraid to change their mind. We have a collegial, creative, hard-working staff always looking to excel in whatever we take on.
