The Department of Classical Studies in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks qualified applicants for a full time, one term position to begin January 1, 2027.  This is a non-tenure track position offered for one term only as a faculty replacement. The anticipated starting date is January 1, 2027.

Duties and responsibilities for this Lecturer I position are teaching to teach the following courses: 

ARCHAM 222: Introduction to Roman Archaeology.  In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor will supervise two GSIs, hold office hours for students, provide appropriate syllabus and course materials electronically, meet with GSIs weekly, and handle routine administrative matters. Class meets TTh 10-11:30 am

ARCHAM 104: Ancient Cities. The Lecturer will share instructional duties with Professor Natalie Abell. In addition to teaching responsibilities, instructors will supervise two GSIs, hold office hours for students, provide appropriate syllabus and course materials electronically, meet with GSIs weekly, and handle routine administrative matters. Class meets TTh 4-5:30 pm

ARCHAM 350: Topics. This course is a 3-credit course for undergraduates. The instructor can teach a topic of their choosing (with approval from the department). Class meets MW 1-2:30.

The Lecturer will also attend regular faculty meetings as necessary.

• Ph.D. in Classical Art & Archaeology, Ancient Mediterranean Archaeology or related field

• Knowledge of ancient Roman art and archaeology, and experience teaching Mediterranean Archaeology and/or Classical Civilization courses at the college level.

• Prior teaching experience
