The Economic Growth Institute (EGI), is a unit within the University of Michigan Office of the Vice President for Government Relations. EGI empowers communities, businesses, inventors, innovators, and state and federal governments with economic and market insights to better engage and contribute to job creation, job retention, and improvement of local, state, and federal economies. EGI leads economic, industry, advanced manufacturing, and jobs forecasting. EGI transforms these insights into programs that provide business and communities assistance, support, and intervention.

Responsibilities*

 

Administrative and Personnel Support: 

  • Monitor routine non-salary expenditures; 
  • Resolve problems with accounting transactions 
  • Prepare and monitor Procurement transactions Prepare and update orientation materials 
  • Process client cost share checks; reconcile spreadsheets 
  • Process and reconcile consultant invoices; update spreadsheets 
  • Prepare work area for staff and students as needed 
  • Review travel expense reports for compliance of University travel policies 
  • Assist with onboarding of new permanent and student employees 
  • Assist with preparation of Institute events 
  • Knowledgeable of MPathways structures and procedures 
  • Assist with other administrative processes and special projects as needed to support Institute operations and priorities 

Clerical Support and Staff/Student Resource: 

  • Provide support in preparation of reports, spreadsheets and graphics documents 
  • Assist with filing and document creation 
  • Maintain and update publications and office supplies 
  • Review resource materials at least once a year and remove outdated materials 
  • Assist with communications and email groups 
  • Provides general facilities administration support 
  • Assist with providing resources and resolving operational issues for students and staff 
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field or equivalent combination of education and experience necessary
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information and to maintain confidentiality 
  • Proven ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines     
  • Committed to maintaining a professional and positive workplace demeanor 
  • Experience in data entry with minimal error rate 
  • Excellent customer service orientation and ability to perform the characteristic duties and responsibilities of the position 
  • Past customer service experience 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Extremely reliable attendance 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility for work in diverse settings     
  • Strong organizational skills, attentive to detail and able to follow protocols
  • Advanced computer skills in - word processing, internet searches, spreadsheets, Google Suite, CRM software

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Proficiency in working with customer relations management systems (e.g. Salesforce) and student information system databases
  • Ability to compile data and produce reports
