Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assist in the care of postpartum mothers and newborns assigned to the Mother-Baby Unit.
Provide support in maintaining a safe, supportive, and family-centered environment that promotes the physical, emotional, and educational needs of postpartum patients and their families.
Assist the Registered Nurse in providing routine postpartum and newborn care, including supporting maternal recovery, newborn care activities, patient comfort, and mobility while ensuring patient safety.
Support breastfeeding and infant care initiatives by assisting with patient needs and reinforcing a family-centered approach to care, as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Ensure the efficient cleaning, stocking, organization, and management of postpartum equipment, procedural instruments, and patient care supplies to support unit operations.
Perform a wide range of physical activities, including standing for extended periods, transporting and positioning patients, infants, and equipment, and frequently positioning oneself to provide safe and effective patient care.
Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team while following direction and prioritizing patient care responsibilities.
Communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team members in a welcoming, respectful, caring, and professional manner.
Understand and demonstrate the principles of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC), including Respect and Dignity, Information Sharing, Participation, and Collaboration, in all aspects of postpartum and newborn care.
