The University of Michigan-Flint Human Resources Office is seeking a Senior HR Consultant with a primary focus on all components of faculty labor and faculty appointments. Reporting to the Associate HR Director at UM-Flint, this position will provide consultation, guidance and support to faculty, departments, managers, faculty leadership, and campus administration on hiring, onboarding, employment processing, policy interpretation, labor relations support, compliance, and HR operations.
Responsibilities
Faculty HR Support and Employment Processes
- Consult departments and provide guidance to manage faculty posting-to-hire and onboarding processes.
- Collaborate with the offices of senior leadership to provide HR support for tenure, promotion, Regents processing, and faculty leave processes.
- Lead campus coordinator and assist departments/faculty with Interfolio processes, including search, FAR, and promotion and tenure.
- Manage HR compliance for LEO-related faculty programs and resources.
Recruitment, Search, and Compensation Support
- Support faculty postings and recruitment processes.
- Providing training and assisting search advisory committees with preparation, tools, and interview materials.
- Provide compensation analysis for recruitment and hard-to-fill positions as assigned.
- Help improve recruitment and employment processing workflows.
HR Consultation, Policy Interpretation, and Employee Relations
- Provide HR guidance to departments, managers and faculty.
- Respond to HR, benefits, payroll, and timekeeping questions related to faculty positions.
- Interpret SPG and collective bargaining agreement questions in consultation with HR leadership.
- Facilitate employee relations matters, classification and compensation reviews, and department reorganizations.
Faculty Labor Relations and Union Support
- Facilitate faculty and LEO union processes.
- Participate in and track grievance, disciplinary, and negotiation processes as assigned.
HR Operations, Compliance, and Records Management
- Serve as a back up I-9 Compliance Officer and provide Notary Public services.
- Collaboratively work to support the HR office staff with HR transactions, payroll-related processing, and applicable benefits processes.
- Approve standard termination workflows, additional pay lines, and department budget earnings.
- Run reports and maintain HR records in university systems.
Projects, Process Improvement, and Campus Support
- Participate in HR projects, committees, and assigned campus initiatives.
- Partner with HR leadership and university experts to improve HR processes.
- Serve as liaison or training lead for assigned systems and processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 5 years of HR Generalist experience, or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience providing HR consultation and customer service.
- Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
- Knowledge of HR practices, employment processes, and policy interpretation.
- Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with recruitment, search committees, compensation analysis, or employee/labor relations.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
