The Gifts of Art program at Michigan Medicine invites applications for the position of Musician for the Hospital Music Program. This is a 20 hour a week position. Basic duties include playing appropriate music in public spaces within the hospital facilities. The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of appropriate repertoire styles for healthcare environments, and be familiar with issues of general hospital operations, as well as medical, emotional and ethical issues related to patients, staff and visitors in hospitals.
This position is for a highly skilled musician who provides live acoustic music in public spaces throughout the University of Michigan Health System to create a calming, supportive environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff. This position requires exceptional musical sensitivity, the ability to improvise continuously in response to changing clinical environments, and an understanding that music serves as a therapeutic resource rather than a performance.
In addition to providing live music, this position supports the Gifts of Art Music Program's audiovisual and other special initiatives as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comforting live acoustic music in public spaces within UMH Hospitals
Assist with recorded and streamed music production and programming as needed
Provide music for special programs in UMH
Other duties as assigned
