The Assistant Coach / Director of Operations is a full-time member of the Michigan Men's Gymnastics coaching staff responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of building and sustaining a nationally competitive NCAA championship program. This position combines technical coaching responsibilities with administrative leadership to ensure the program operates efficiently while providing an exceptional student-athlete experience.

The position serves as a key liaison among student-athletes, athletic department staff, alumni, donors, recruits, and external organizations while helping foster a culture of excellence, integrity, and academic success.

Coaching Responsibilities 
 

Technical Coaching

• Coach assigned events during daily practices.
• Develop annual and daily training plans with the Head Coach.
• Provide technical instruction, spotting, and skill progression.
• Assist with athlete development from freshman through senior year.
• Analyze practice and competition performances using video technology.
• Monitor athlete readiness and communicate with sports medicine and strength & conditioning staff.

Recruiting

• Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes.
• Build relationships with club coaches and families.
• Coordinate recruiting visits.
• Conduct recruiting correspondence within NCAA rules.
• Attend club competitions, camps, and recruiting events.
• Assist in scholarship evaluations and roster management.

Competition 

• Prepare event lineups.
• Assist with competition strategy.
• Coordinate warm-up plans.
• Judge training routines.
• Travel with the team and supervise student-athletes.
• Assist with scouting and opponent analysis.

Student-Athlete Development

• Mentor student-athletes academically and personally.
• Support leadership development.
• Monitor academic progress.
• Promote sportsmanship and team culture.

Director of Operations Responsibilities 
 

The Director of Operations will report to the Head Coach of Men's Gymnastics. The Director of Operations will be responsible for administering all the year-round activities and operations of the men's gymnastics program. The Director's responsibilities are restricted and defined by NCAA and Big Ten rules and guidelines, as well as University policies. This position will work cooperatively with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff. 

• Manage day-to-day operations of the men's gymnastics team
• Assist the head coaches with the development of competition schedules.
• Schedule and participate in staff meetings and arrange meetings with departments and external groups.
• Liaison with athletic department units including Sport Administration, Academic Success Program,
• Compliance Services Office, Business Office, Event Team, Travel Office, and External Relations.
• Assist in the development of sport budgets and oversee all expenditures and contractual agreements as they pertain to the men's gymnastics program.
• Work with facility managers for building maintenance, signage, and displays.
• Manage all aspects of team travel and assist with recruiting travel.
• Coordinate all communication with program staff and student-athletes.
• Oversee student managers.
• Assist with administrative duties and organization of recruiting activities as allowed per NCAA rules.
• Oversee ordering, inventory, and distribution of team equipment and apparel
• Supervise support staff and student managers.
• Coordinate the collection, cataloging and use of all sport video archives.
• Coordinate occasional team meals, annual team and individual awards, team banquets, alumni events and activities, and all program special events.
• Develop and execute a plan for year-round community service projects through the External Relations office.
• Coordinate Team and Individual Awards.
• Coordinate nominations for athletic and scholar achievement awards.
• Home meet management: Assist Event Management Meet Director with all home meets.
• Maintain compliance regarding all NCAA, Big Ten, and university rules and regulations. Other duties as assigned.
   

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
• Working in a fast-paced, complex environment in intercollegiate athletics or related fields. Availability to work evening and weekend hours, including travel to away competitions.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
• Ability to travel extensively.
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
