The Mary A. Rackham Institute (MARI) at the University of Michigan welcomes applications for our next Director of the MARI Mental Health Clinics. This position offers an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and management for our interdisciplinary Psychological Clinic (PC) and the University Center for the Child and Family (UCCF). 

The Mental Health Director reports directly to the Senior Director of MARI and is an active member of the MARI Leadership Team. This position is responsible, in collaboration with the Senior Director and leadership team, for developing the clinical and fiscal goals of the mental health clinics, contributing to strategic planning, program development, organizational decision-making, supporting the mission/purpose, leading and supervising a multidisciplinary and talented team of mental health clinicians, facilitating effective and evidence-based methods of excellent clinical service delivery, and training/supervision of the next generation of mental health providers.

Consistent with its primary purpose of clinical service and training, both PC and UCCF participate in an APA-accredited psychology internship training program, practicum training for psychology graduate students, and postdoctoral training in psychology. It also offers postgraduate training in social work and field placements for students in the School of Social Work. Academic collaborations involving faculty and students from University departments and units are encouraged.

MARI is a revenue-generating auxiliary comprised of three specialized units: the Psychological Clinic, the University Center for the Child and Family, and the University Center for Language and Literacy.  This is a 5-year appointment, renewable with satisfactory performance, and mutual agreement.

Administrative Leadership (65% of time)
 

• Provide overall leadership for the mental health clinics, coordination with training directors and clinic leads, and ensuring compliance with standards of external agencies, including the American Psychological Association, COA, and HIPAA regulations. 
• Formal supervision of the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, managing performance, and billable clinical targets, job duties, coaching, annual performance reviews, and development.
• Build collaborative partnerships using effective communication practices with the institute director, leadership team members, MARI staff, and other external/internal partners.
• Serve as an active member of the leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, program development, and organizational decision-making.
• Manage and be accountable for the mental health clinics' budget.
• General knowledge of billing, CPT coding, and insurance reimbursement.
• Lead and support the development, review, and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
• Serve on committees, work teams, task forces, agency programs, and initiatives.
• Develop new strategic initiatives for UCCF and PC and review existing programs to ensure effectiveness and responsiveness to community needs, clinic values, and strategic goals.
• Model continuous improvement and willingness to directly address and support the mission/purpose, core values, and strategic goals of our institute.
• Promote a positive environment that encourages staff engagement, communication, and collaboration.  
• Foster and promote a cohesive, inclusive team for all of MARI, including clear evidence of cross-discipline and cross-clinic cooperation and joint projects promoting MARI as a whole.
• Collaborate with multiple members across the institute, including, but not limited to, the MARI HR Generalist, MARI Finance and Budget Analyst, Marketing and Communications Outreach Specialist, Call Center, and Patient Accounts Team.

Training (20% of time)

• Provide clinical supervision of psychology practicum students, psychology interns, and postgraduate trainees (monitor clinical care of clients seen by supervisee, structure activities of the supervisee to help ensure the provision of competent services, facilitate trainee's professional development, provide formative and summative evaluation of the supervisee's clinical work and professional behavior), fulfill academic/professional requirements for supervisee's practicum/internship/or post-doctoral fellowship);  monitor and ensure the welfare of patients seen by trainees and staff.

Clinical (15% of time)
 

• Maintain a consistent weekly clinical case load of six billable hours and timely clinical documentation using the electronic health record (EHR).
   

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

• Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program and internship 
• Full Michigan licensure as a Psychologist
• 7+ years of experience supervising clinical staff in a mental health setting
• Demonstrated training and clinical experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and/or families
• Demonstrated teaching and clinical supervision of trainees
• Proficiency in working with an electronic health record 
• General knowledge of billing, CPT coding, and insurance reimbursement
