The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) Undergraduate Education, in support of the Opportunity Hub, is seeking to hire one (1) part-time LEO Lecturer I to teach three half-term, one-credit courses for a total effort of 66.66%: ALA 125: Positioning Yourself for a Successful Internship and ALA 325: Putting Your Education to Work during Fall 2026.

The LSA Opportunity Hub is a transformational initiative to encourage all students to connect their liberal arts education with their goals and aspirations. Hub staff collaborate with campus partners to facilitate access to internships, funding, employer partnerships, and alumni mentors so students can explore challenging, diverse opportunities, discover what matters most to them in their education and beyond, and put their liberal arts education to work. We are seeking candidates who are interested in facilitating a structured learning opportunity/course that facilitates the connections between students' liberal arts education and experiential, internship opportunities. Candidates must prize and work to further our desire to foster and cultivate inclusivity and belonging in the classroom and beyond.

The appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2026, and end on December 31, 2026.

Lecturer duties are expected to include teaching, attending all class sessions, developing course materials integrating LSA Opportunity Hub resources with the support of Hub Course Assistant Interns (LSA Connect, LSA Engage, Canvas Resources), partnering with Hub teams to host guest speakers (i.e. Alum engagement, Employer engagement), evaluating and grading students, holding regularly scheduled office hours, and maintaining contact with the Opportunity Hub's Director of Learning, Data, and Assessment. 

• A Master's degree
• College-level teaching experience, including lesson planning, grading, and classroom facilitation.
• Curricular experience, designing and structuring individual courses, including determining course objectives, creating assignments, and modes of student evaluation.

The selection criteria used for this search are based on how the applicant's education and experience meet the required minimum qualifications for the position.  Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

• Experience in working with students on career exploration and internships; teaching professional writing; or teaching in contexts where reflective writing enriches students' learning; experience working with students studying the liberal arts.
• Liberal arts degree is highly desirable/preferred.
• Experience teaching students of varying class standing, from 1st year through senior year. 
• Experience with high-impact practices and/or active learning classrooms. 
• Experience and/or willingness to work collaboratively with staff. 
• Curricular planning and implementation across a suite of related courses, including establishing related learning outcomes, evaluating student needs, researching and assessing existing curricular offerings, and evaluating curricular changes.

ALA 125
This course will help LSA students become competitive for internships as they explore connections between their academic interests and professional goals. The course will focus on effective goal setting, translating experiences into the competencies employers look for, searching for internships and accessing resources, identifying and engaging networks, and communicating compelling stories for professional audiences. Students are encouraged to learn actively and to experiment in a collaborative environment as they become increasingly resourceful, fluent, and adaptable.

ALA 325
This course is intended for LSA seniors and juniors who are preparing for steps beyond graduation. Students are likely to have some experience with internships, job searching, or planning for graduate study. The course will focus on exploring the value of their education in the liberal arts and sciences, building a strategy to provide concrete steps to reaching their goals, and articulating in various ways, for various audiences, stories of their professional interests, accomplishments, and abilities. A central feature of the course is an essay in which students synthesize the value of their unique Michigan education. Students are encouraged to actively draw on their peers as sources of experience, advice, and feedback.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
