Support the Transplant Center Finance team by assisting with reviewing incoming referrals to kidney transplant. Verify insurance and benefits, obtain referrals and/or plan authorizations as needed. Update patient registration to include transplant guarantor and transplant specific payers. 

The financial coordinator is responsible for managing the kidney/pancreas referral work queue in MiChart. Must be able to prioritize referrals based on appointment date, and insurance plan requirements. The financial coordinator is responsible for obtaining insurance benefits for all aspects of the transplant process and noting the patient?s referral with details on patient cost sharing. The financial coordinator will also obtain referrals by working with community PCP offices when needed. In addition, they will also contact the insurance plan to obtain prior authorization for the transplant evaluation process as required by the payer. The position will also advise patients and referring physicians when a patient?s insurance does not allow them to come to Michigan Medicine based on network status. 

Complete transplant portion of patient registration in MiChart. Must create the patient?s transplant guarantor and attach the correct insurance in the correct billing order. Should know which payers require the use of transplant specific contracts. 

Position may also include face to face counseling through kidney outreach clinics across the State as well as a weekly financial class for transplant patients. Participate as needed in transplant educational seminars provided to community dialysis centers. 

 Bachelor's degree

 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, consistently problem solving and managing time in an efficient and productive manner. 

 Strong knowledge of medical company policies and requirements (i.e. Medicare, Medicaid, and BCBS).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Outstanding customer service skills.

Analytical, organizational, and computing skills with MiChart, Phoenix, Word, Excel. 

Should have a working knowledge of coordination of benefit rules, specifically as it relates to transplant (i.e. ESRD Medicare, Disability Medicare) Be able to effectively use online verifications systems such as WEBDENIS, C-SNAP, and MEDICAID/CHAMPS.  Prior experience with MiChart billing and registration. Must keep current on all U of M Contracts related to transplant and other services, including a knowledge of the payers which routinely utilize specific transplant pricing contracts.  Prior experience obtaining referrals and/or prior authorizations.

Full time, five days weekly, remote, hours are flexible.
