Job Summary

 

Admissions Counselors are responsible for all recruiting activities in an assigned territory, including school visits, college fairs, on-campus events and communication with students and parents.

 

They will develop strong working relationships with high school counselors, college access organizations, and other partners in their assigned territory.

 

In collaboration with the Admissions leadership, they will develop a recruiting plan for their territory and will be responsible for meeting the application and enrollment goals stated in that plan.

 

This posting is for two open positions that are being filled. 

 

These positions report to the Associate Director of Admissions.

 

These  positions are full-time 40 hours per week at 100% effort.

Responsibilities*

 

Student Recruitment (30%)

  • Manage and develop the scheduling of effective and efficient recruitment travel
  • Visit identified primary and secondary school recruitment locations
  • Maintain a balanced schedule of visiting schools within a close location 
  • Schedule visits throughout the fall and winter travel season.

University Representation (25%)

  • Represent the university at in-person and virtual recruitment events on and off campus.
  • Attend MACRAO and other college fairs
  • Present to high school or college classrooms
  • Attend on campus events including but not limited to Fall and Spring Open House, Admitted Students Day, Operation HOME and Health Science and Nursing Spotlight

Customer Service and Outreach (20%)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective students, high school and community college staff and faculty, and other stakeholders in an assigned territory
  • Respond to inquiries and meet with prospective students
  • Provide regular communication to high school/community college contacts

Advise prospective students (15%)

  • Meet with prospective students visiting campus for tours or other university events 
  • Assist other visitors on a walk-in basis

Team Support (10%)

  • Assist with the imaging and processing of admission applications and related documents. 
  • Assist processing team with Ann Arbor Applications generally in March and April

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. 
  • One or more years of experience in guiding and/or counseling students, sales, marketing or other fields related to recruiting. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to work nights and weekends and to travel for recruiting events and professional development.
  • Must have the ability to travel between work sites and use a university vehicle.
  • Employees may be required to use their personal vehicle to travel to off-campus recruitment events. Travel in a personal vehicle will be reimbursed.

Hybrid:
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

Work Locations

 

These positions are hybrid with the primary location at the University of Michigan-Flint's Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 121 University Center. 

This position requires regular travel to admissions and recruitment events throughout Michigan and may require occasional overnight or out-of-state travel. These events may take place in the evening or on weekends. 

Union Affiliation

 

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the University Staff United (USU), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
