Job Summary

 

You will work in close creative partnership with our Director, Event Creative and Logistics. This partnership will help lead the development of event communications and creative strategies for University & Development Events (UDE). Each event must reflect the mission and brand of the University of Michigan.

In collaboration with our Director, you will coordinate event marketing, creative design, and communication materials for a range of presidential, ceremonial, and development events. Additionally, you will oversee production schedules, guiding creative approaches, supporting event design, and engaging with partners both internally and externally.

Responsibilities*

 

Event Design Execution (45%)

  • Collaborate with colleagues from The Office of University Development (OUD), Marketing & Communications, Annual Giving, Development Services, and other Schools, Campuses, Colleges and Units (SCCU) partners. Together, conceptualize, write, and design event communications and marketing materials, including invitations, digital assets, web content, and print collateral for UDE produced events.
  • Advance event design by working side-by-side with our planning teams, developing materials that support event goals and accessibility needs (signage, giveaways, posters, and name tags).
  • Identify, select, and collaborate with our internal and external vendors to produce event materials designed within our UDE team.
  • Participate on event planning teams to contribute to and help develop internal and external marketing plans to support event goals.
  • Develop event registration websites and content.
  • Provide budget projections/estimates and reconcile final vendor payments.

Event Design & Communication Leadership (30%)

  • Be the Lead in Director's absence.
  • Be the primary liaison between Michigan Creative and UDE for special projects, facilitating collaboration, and project management to ensure cohesive event design and execution.
  • Manage the development, and content strategy for all ceremonial websites, ensuring updates, accuracy, and understanding of institutional standards and event goals.
  • Lead the creative development of event communications and marketing materials for UDE, working in close partnership and under the guidance of our Director, Event Creative and Logistics.
  • Collaborate with our colleagues across UDE to conceptualize creative event themes and ensure all materials are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with the University's brand standards.

Project Management and Operations (15%) and Team Management (10%)

  • Your work will involve work demands outside of regular business hours and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
  • Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated experience in event communications and marketing and design.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring creative/design staff.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), web content management, and email marketing platforms.
  • Write, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and collaborating with multiple partners and teams.
