Job Summary

 

The D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center; and high-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000-square-foot hospital which also features 20 surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities. 

 

 

Responsibilities*

 
  • Identify and access the needs of the PACU staff for orientation and in-service programs with the support of the OR/PACU CNS.
  • Investigate, design, and implement competency-based orientation/evaluation with the support of the OR/PACU CNS.
  • Coordinate, collaborate, with and support Unit Based Committee in-service and staff development programs.
  • Evaluate and modify orientation based on clinical outcomes and cost effectiveness.
  • Coordinate and monitor PACU staff regarding mandatory hospital competencies and mandatory in-service attendance.
  • Provide consultation in the area of clinical expertise to PACU staff.
  • Assist in the development and acquisition of unit resource materials.
  • Promote attendance at continuing education programs and involvement in professional organization (ASPAN AACN) activities by unit staff.
  • Provide patient care to maintain clinical competence, act as a role model, and assist in monitoring unit practices.
  • Assist in the maintenance of nursing practice standards.
  • Participate in the development of procedures, protocols, and guidelines for the PACU.
  • Coordinate performance improvement programs activities.
  • Provide consultation and clinical expertise to other departmental PACU settings and procedure areas.
  • Provide and coordinate continued educational (CE) opportunities to PACU staff including annual nursing Blitz.
  • Promote use of and embed evidence-based practice, involving nursing sensitive indicators. 
  • Develop and coordinate off-shift clinical resources (e.g. SharePoint website, in-services, educational posters, instruction manuals).
  • Educate, support and mentor off-shift clinical experts.
  • Encourage and coordinate abstract and poster creation for UHMS and national organizations.
  • Facilitate support of embedded clinical experts and support off shift staff.
  • 60:40 business/staffing ratio. Educators will be expected to have up to 2 clinical staffing days within a work week. 

 

     

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent education and experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of recent Pre-Op and PACU Phase 1 & Phase 2 clinical nursing is necessary (within last 4 years).
  • Two (2) or more years recent experience as a clinical preceptor in PACU (within last 3 years).
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Masters of Science in Nursing.
  • Experience in teaching, writing objectives and program planning.
  • Active membership in professional specialty organization on local, state and national level.
  • CPAN and CAPA certification.
  • Publications and presentations in Perianesthesia care.
  • Fluent in computer/technology skills: SharePoint, Excel, Power Point, adobe, Photoshop/Canva, etc.
  • Characteristics include: excellent clinical skills, demonstrated excellent communication skills with staff/patients/families, flexible, approachable, creative, detail oriented, lifelong learner, demonstrated ability to problem solve, team player, demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:
ENC- COMPETENT.
Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
RSAM levels range from ENC-COMPETENT to ENC-EXPERT TO ENC-MASTERY

Work Schedule

 

Hours: 40 hours/week- may include weekend shifts to meet unit educational needs. 4 days per week minimum requirement.
Shift:  Afternoon hours with needs beginning at 8 am.

No remote work.

Responsibilities:  0.6 FTE ENC role, 0.4 FTE staffing role
