Department Overview

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support. 

Division Overview

The HITS Clinical & Revenue Cycle (CRC) division is responsible for more than 300 clinical applications that patients, clinicians, and staff rely on every day. The CRC team is responsible for supporting inpatient and ambulatory care, clinical areas, and revenue cycle activities. A significant focus of the CRC team is Michigan Medicine's electronic health record (EHR) system, including implementing and configuring Epic workflows, enhancements, optimizations, and new modules.

Job Summary

 

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays a role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with technology-related information, products, and support. HITS also provides institutional expertise related to IT strategy, security, infrastructure, and resource management. 

Michigan Medicine HITS is seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Pharmacy IT Manager to lead teams supporting Epic Willow Inpatient, Epic Beacon, and clinical decision support across the Academic Medical Center, UMH Sparrow, and UMH West. This leader will report to the Director of Inpatient Applications and play a pivotal role in guiding the Medication Use Informatics & Technology teams through a major Epic integration.

This is a hybrid role with onsite presence expected to support operational, project, and team needs.

Responsibilities*

 

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Pharmacy IT team members supporting Epic Willow Inpatient and Beacon across multiple regions.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture grounded in safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee staffing, performance management, professional development, and workforce planning.


Epic Integration & IT Project Leadership

  • Serve as a primary leader for the Medication Use Informatics & Technology workstreams during Epic integration.
  • Direct complex IT projects from planning through implementation, ensuring alignment with clinical, operational, and organizational priorities.
  • Coordinate cross functional teams to ensure safe, efficient, and standardized medication use workflows.


Clinical & Operational Partnership

  • Partner closely with Pharmacy leadership, Nursing, Providers, and other clinical/operational teams to ensure technology solutions support safe and effective patient care.
  • Collaborate with Inpatient Applications leadership to align system design, governance, and optimization strategies.


Vendor & Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors, including Epic and medication use technology partners.
  • Ensure service quality, contract adherence, and timely issue resolution. 

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy or Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy with completion of internship, licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Michigan and 3 to 5 years of pharmacy experience including 1 to 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Certificate of completion from a PGY-1&2 Residency in Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL), or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in management and/or leadership.
  • Current licensure as a registered pharmacist in good standing by the State of Michigan Board of Pharmacy and a Michigan Controlled Substance License to practice pharmacy in the State of Michigan, or eligibility to become licensed within 60 days of employment start date.
  • Experience with Epic systems and familiarity with pharmacy automation and technology solutions
  • Effectively communicate with pharmacy team members, other healthcare professionals, employees, patients and visitors.
  • Ability to meet all of the above qualifications and requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pharmacy workflows, medication safety principles, and clinical systems.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • 5+ years of supervisory or formal leadership experience in pharmacy, informatics, or healthcare IT.
  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree.
  • Experience implementing healthcare IT solutions, preferably within a large integrated health system.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, regulatory requirements, and healthcare information security standards.
  • Strong understanding of pharmacy operations across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Hands-on experience with Epic Willow Inpatient, Epic Beacon, or related medication use technologies.
  • Knowledge of business including understanding of contracts, finances, budget management, and data analysis

Work Locations

 

This position is being offered as a Hybrid position. There will be times that it will be appropriate for you to work from home. There will be other times that you will be required to work onsite for meetings, and other team and project support. This position will be 90% remote work. May require working during non-business hours and on weekends.

On-Call rotation may be required for this position.
