Job Summary

 

Finance Communications is looking for an experienced communicator to join our team. Working with the director of communications, you'll support a variety of internal and external communication projects across the organization. The position includes:

  • Writing, editing, and proofreading content for multiple communication channels such as websites, newsletters, emails, brochures, presentations, etc.
  • Researching article ideas and interviewing Finance colleagues.
  • Developing an editorial calendar for the Finance intranet.
  • Managing the Finance intranet and the home page of finance.umich.edu.
  • Providing communications guidance to Finance employees and departments
  • Coordinating projects with graphic and web designers.
  • Writing and designing presentations, flyers, signage, brochures, etc.
  • Developing, implementing, and measuring communication plans.
  • Photographing select Finance events and activities.
  • Working with local content managers to ensure the Finance suite of websites is accurate and current.
  • Ensuring all content adheres to Finance and U-M style and branding standards.
  • Administrative work as needed.

Finance is a division within Business and Finance at U-M. This job is fully remote, but occasional onsite meetings may be necessary. In addition, it will be necessary-on occasion- to attend certain activities (social events, large meetings, etc.,) to take photos and interview attendees in order to produce content for Finance communication channels.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a related role developing communications and strategies to meet measurable goals. 
  • Proficiency in WordPress and Drupal website content management systems and using basic HTML.
  • Outstanding writing skills in a variety of formats, ranging from news and feature articles to web content and video scripts.
  • Excellent editing and proofreading abilities.
  • Ability to use Adobe (i.e., Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, and Illustrator) and the Microsoft Office (i.e., Word and Excel) and Google (i.e., docs, spreadsheets, and slides) suites.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of communications strategies for continuous improvement.

  • Ability to create and edit videos.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 

  • Ability to translate complex information into easy-to-understand communications.

  • Experience working with leadership to develop and refine communications. 

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proven capacity to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize effectively, and exercise sound judgment. 

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and departments. 

  • Skilled in composing and tailoring communications for varied audiences. 

  • Creative thinking, adaptability, and strong attention to detail.

  • Experience operating a professional camera.

Modes of Work

 

The work requirements allow for the majority or all of the work to be completed offsite. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements, but is not generally scheduled on a recurring basis.
