The Office of K-12 Partnerships is collaborating with Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools to bring the Math Corps summer program to the UM-Flint campus. The Wayne State University Math Corps was established in 1992 as a combined mathematics enrichment and mentoring program for Detroit public school students. For over thirty years, the Math Corps has been working to provide children with the kinds of educational and lifetime opportunities that all kids deserve.
UM-Flint's Math Corps program will be held July 13- August 6, Monday-Thursday, with additional training sessions, orientation, and closing ceremonies after the program. UM-Flint is hiring (4) student College Instructors (CIs) to help staff the program.
College Instructors (CIs) are current college students who provide leadership for a team of 10 middle school students and 5 high school teaching assistants (TAs). CI's are responsible for: participating in all pre- and post-camp activities; attending each regularly scheduled program day including staff debriefing; supervising and monitoring their students academically, planning and facilitating team time activities including individualized lesson plans and team-wide games; managing behavior; observing, guiding, and managing TAs interaction with students; teaching and tutoring students; maintaining a safe, positive and encouraging learning environment; and most importantly, serving as big brothers and sisters to both middle and high school students.
