Responsibilities*

 

These positions will work on a team with the following responsibilities:

  • Perform information services desk duties which include maintaining user accounts, course reserve and physical material handling and processing, checking out and checking in physical material, and shelving material.

  • Provide basic library and campus information services to users in person, over email, and by phone.

  • Collect statistics on interactions at service desks to help inform decision-making related to service improvements at the Library.

  • Respond to inquiries and communicate building access policies to library users.

  • Regularly open and/or close buildings and service points.

  • Support the day-to-day work of student employees. 

Required Qualifications*

 
  • High School Graduate or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to adapt and respond to different

types of questions and situations

  • Previous experience in customer service environments

  • Understands and values diversity and the importance of inclusion

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively

  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment

  • Demonstrated aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • An understanding of music notation and performance is preferred for the Music Library role

Modes of Work

 

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Schedule

 

Multiple schedules and locations are available. Please include with your resume a written statement of interest that indicates which locations/schedules suit your availability.   • Music Library, Monday-Friday, 8:45AM-1:45PM, 8-hour Friday shift optional (25-28 hours/week), ASAP through May 2027 [$19.00-19.50]

  • Taubman Health Sciences Library, Monday-Friday, 8:45AM-1:00PM (21.25 hours/week), ASAP through May 2027 [$18.00-$18.50]

  • Hatcher/Shapiro Libraries, Monday 8:00AM-5:30PM and Friday, 8:00AM-5:30PM with an unpaid 30 minute lunch (18 hours/week) [$18.00-$18.50]

  • Hatcher/Shapiro Libraries, Saturday, 10:00AM-6:30PM, Sunday 1PM-5PM, Monday, 8:00AM-4:30PM with an unpaid 30 minute lunch on Saturday and Monday (20 hours/week) [$18.00-$18.50]
     

The Hatcher/Shapiro schedules will have the option to begin training as soon as July 5th with the option to pick-up shifts between the hours of 8AM-3PM Monday-Friday for up to 20 hours/week through August 23, 2026, after which the above listed standing schedules will begin and continue through May 2027. 


Flexibility is available with advance notice, but the temporary employee is generally expected to work their assigned standing schedule.
