Job Summary

 

 Temporary position working as a student counselor to students 5th- 12th grades at the Summer Vocal Academy of Music at University of Michigan-Flint, July 7-17, 2026. Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 2:30 pm for the duration of the program; additional hours on the second Friday during the concert performance. 

Responsibilities*

 
  • Daily check-in and check-out and monitoring of students for the duration of the program.
  • Assist students with schedule and classroom transitions during the day.
  • Supervise students at their pick up by parents/guardians at the end of each day.
  • Supervise and assist students during lunch.
  • Assist with paperwork, filing and distributing folders, sheet music, t-shirts, accoutrements, printing, stage set up, and concert logistics.
  • Assist academy instructors with instruments and equipment, as needed;
  • Monitor and report any unusual activities or events that may occur near the camp to the program director, Events & Engagement Coordinator, and/or university public safety.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Must be a current UM-Flint music education student.


 

 

 

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Previous experience as an academy counselor or other camp counselor preferred. 
 

 

Modes of Work

 

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
