Job Summary

 

Established investigator looking to hire and train a full time research technician to assist senior lab staff in completion of a diverse array of experiments. This position is intended for a qualified candidate seeking hands-on research experience in a translational microbiome laboratory. The technician will work with senior lab staff on a diverse array of experiments and should have enough prior laboratory experience to learn new skills and protocols quickly. After appropriate training, the technician will be expected to work independently and to perform core molecular techniques reliably, including DNA extraction, quantification, amplification, and sequencing from human and animal specimens. Additional responsibilities will include maintaining an organized lab notebook, assisting with data collection and organization, communicating results clearly to the PI and senior laboratory staff, and supporting murine experiments including animal handling and tissue harvesting. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential. The position is best suited for a candidate with at least an associate degree and 1 to 3 years of relevant experience, although a bachelor?s degree and prior undergraduate coursework in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or immunology with laboratory components are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities*

 
  • DNA extraction from human and animal specimens. DNA quantification using droplet digital PCR. 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing library preparation for microbiome analysis.
  • Keep lab notebook updated. Data collection, analysis, organization, and reporting to PI and senior lab staff. (power point, excel, graph pad prism, adobe photoshop)
  • Animal handling (murine experimentation), tissue harvesting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • HS Diploma or Assoc Degree
  • 0-1 year experience required.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree and prior undergraduate coursework in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or immunology with laboratory components
