Responsibilities*

 
  • Provide comprehensive, patient- and family-centered nursing care as a member of the Pediatric Neurosurgery multidisciplinary team, including preoperative and postoperative support across the continuum of care.

  • Perform focused and ongoing assessments independently to guide effective clinical decision-making and patient care.

  • Manage patient triage and follow-up through multiple modalities, with telephone triage as a primary function, including symptom calls, Red Calls, portal messages, encounter follow-up, and test result communication.

  • Support clinic workflows through in-person and remote care, including patient intake, medication reconciliation, nurse visits (in-person/video), and assistance with procedures as needed.

  • Deliver culturally sensitive, age-appropriate care using team-based nursing models, incorporating patients and families into care planning and decision-making.

  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, side effects, and care plans by assessing readiness to learn, developing individualized teaching plans, and adapting approaches to ensure understanding.

  • Document nursing assessments, care, and education accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with hospital policies and protocols.

  • Collaborate effectively with nursing colleagues, physicians, assistive personnel, and interdisciplinary partners; provide functional supervision and delegate tasks appropriately following the 5 Rights of Delegation.

  • Develop and maintain therapeutic, professional relationships characterized by empathy, clear boundaries, cultural humility, and constructive conflict resolution.

  • Utilize internal and community resources to promote continuity of care, address psychosocial or ethical concerns, and support optimal patient outcomes.

  • Uphold hospital standards, apply unit policies with ease, and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking, organization, communication, technological proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple interventions simultaneously.

  • Function with minimal supervision, high motivation, and strong patient advocacy while supporting Pediatric Neurosurgery and Pediatric Surgical Services as needed.

  • Perform additional duties as required to meet departmental and patient care needs

  • Candidate will be expected to demonstrate their ability to function competently with the electronic medical record and other technological applications

Required Qualifications*

 
  •  Bachelors degree in Nursing - OR - Associates degree or diploma in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing

  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.

  • Minimum of three years of recent (within the past 5 years) clinical pediatric experience as an RN 

     

  • BLS certification

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the  Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:

CCC- COMPETENT.

Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

RSAM levels range from CCC-COMPETENT to CCC-EXPERT TO CCC-MASTERY to CCC- MASTERY PLUS.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

Hourly range for RSAM Competent, Registered Nurses $43.10-$67.03/ hour  

Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour 

Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour

Day Shift Weekend Differential- $2.90 / hour

Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour

Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour

 Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

 

Hours/Week: 40 hrs, 1.0 FTE

Days: Day shift. 5- 8-hour shifts, Shift time will be determined upon hire; flexibility in days/shift may be required in the future. Flexibility to support other pediatric clinics may be required. 

Location: C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, Ambulatory Care Services, Pediatric Neurosurgery Clinic, Sites could change in future as service is expanded to different locations.  Availability to float in all Pediatrics Neurosurgery Areas
