Project Overview
The Integrating Computing and AI Across Disciplines project advances research and practice around embedding computing and AI concepts into non-computing disciplinary courses in ways that authentically support disciplinary learning goals. The project builds on recent scholarly work in computing education and interdisciplinary curriculum design, including the development and evaluation of lightweight, discipline-aligned modules ("ounces of computing") that can be integrated into existing courses.

Position Description
The Research Associate will play a central role in research, design, and dissemination activities related to integrating computing and AI across disciplines in higher education. The Research Associate will work closely with the project team led by the Principal Investigator (PI), collaborating with faculty and other project participants across multiple disciplines. The position involves both independent work and coordinated team-based efforts in support of project goals.

Duration: May 11, 2026 - May 10, 2027 

The Research Associate will be expected to:

• Conduct background research on approaches to integrating computing and AI into non-CS disciplinary courses
• Assist in the design, development, and refinement of discipline/aligned computing/AI modules and instructional materials
• Collaborate with faculty and other members of the project team to support the integration of computing and AI into existing courses
• Contribute to coordinated project activities, including tracking progress on shared tasks and supporting communication among team members
• Collect, analyze, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data related to curriculum design and implementation
• Contribute to the preparation of research reports, scholarly articles, and grant-related materials
• Assist with preparing and delivering presentations, workshops, and talks for academic and practitioner audiences
• Support general project coordination and documentation activities as needed

• Master's degree in Computing, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Science, or a closely related field
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment

• Prior experience working on interdisciplinary or discipline-embedded computing projects
• Experience applying computing or data-centric methods in non-CS domains
• Industry experience related to software, data, AI, or technology-enabled products
• Experience with project coordination, teamwork, or managing small development efforts
• Interest in computing education, curriculum design, or AI in education

Hybrid
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
