Overview

In collaboration with a physician dyad partner, the Women's Health Service Line Administrative Leader has responsibility for advancing the design, implementation, alignment, and performance of UM Health's Women's Health (WH) Service Line, and for leading system-level strategic, clinical/programmatic, and operational initiatives across the continuum of care inclusive of UMH Academic Medical Center and UMH Regional Health System including UMH Sparrow, and UMH West.

Leadership of the Women's Health Service Line at UM Health will be vested in a dyad leadership team consisting of a physician and an administrative lead.

Job Summary

In partnership with the Women's Health Service Line Physician Director, the Women's Health Service Line Administrator has responsibility for all administrative aspects of the Women's Health Service Line across University-Michigan Health. The Service Line Administrator is responsible for administrative activities including quality and financial performance and strategic growth in partnership with a physician dyad partner. Reporting to the Chief Nursing and Operations Executive at Michigan Medicine, and with a dotted line to the President, UMH Regional Health System, this leader will:

  • Develop strategy to optimize clinical operations, quality and finance to achieve excellence in all aspects of the service line.
  • Partner with clinical and operational leadership to deliver high-quality, patient-centered programs and services that support institutional goals in coordinated care delivery.
  • Oversee strategic growth of the UMH Women's Health service line across all geographies in partnership with AMC Clinical Department, Regional and AMC Clinical Operations leaders, aligning Women's Health priorities with enterprise-wide strategies.
  • Drive growth and innovation by identifying and connecting key stakeholders to evaluate new service offerings, technologies, and market opportunities across the system.
  • Engage and coordinate execution of service line priorities with operations leads at each site to achieve service line performance targets.

Key Responsibilities

UMH Women's Health Service Line Co-Leadership

  • Communicate Women's Health service line vision, goals, and progress at all levels of the organization. 
  • Collaborate with UMH leadership to ensure alignment with broader institutional priorities.
  • Represent Women's Health Service Line on enterprise-wide committees and initiatives, and communicate program vision, goals, and progress at all levels of the organization.
  • Serve as an executive liaison for Women's Health internal and external stakeholders, including providers, community partners, and regulatory agencies to connect individuals and facilitate information sharing.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Cultivate an inclusive and connected team across multiple Women's Health disciplines and departments within the UMH system.

  • Advance the development, implementation, alignment, and performance of the Women's Health service line and oversee system-level strategic, clinical, programmatic, and operational initiatives across the statewide network continuum of care inclusive of UMH-AMC, UMH-Sparrow, UMH-West, and other partner institutions.

  • Co-Lead the Women's Health Service Line Leadership Council and oversee additional committees or work groups that support the Council (e.g. Quality, Strategy, Marketing, Finance).

Service Line Development & Strategic Management

  • Oversee and advise on service line scope and programs necessary to serve the defined patient populations.
  • Oversee and implement the Women's Health service line's strategic plan, aligning with the health system's mission and vision. 
  • Participates in identification, selection, and evaluation of various support areas such as supply chain, IT, equipment, etc. with the goal of aligning processes when appropriate across the entire service line.
  • Lead system-wide clinical growth and operational integration opportunities for Women's Health services with a focus on improving patient access and patient experience, increasing the efficiency of system capacity and resource utilization, and growing the clinical enterprise. 
  • Coordinate with marketing and public relations teams to promote the Women's Health service line services and ensure clear communication with the organization/stakeholder groups

Financial & Resource Management

  • Coordinate system-level prioritization of service line investments through existing governance with connection in to established funding sources. Develop financial analyses and decision-grade analytics to support programmatic and strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with Women's Health leaders on physician hiring and team recruitment by informing on needs and opportunities from the health systemwide service line view. Align funds flow and incentives across the system, in partnership with Strategy, Finance and Regional and Department stakeholders.

Oversight of Women's Health Quality and Performance

  • In partnership with subject matter experts, define key measurable quality, financial, and growth metrics for the service line, and establish and monitor performance dashboards for tracking key metrics in partnership with Quality and Finance stakeholders.
  • Lead and support initiatives to improve clinical outcomes, patient experience, and staff engagement based on metric outcomes and other areas of prioritization for the service line or organization.
  • Utilize a data-driven approach to monitor performance metrics and drive operational excellence in belonging, patient care, access, safety & quality, patient satisfaction, and efficiency.
  • As applicable, ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements and institutional policies.
  • Champion continuous quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance for all Women's Health programs.
  • As applicable, ensure compliance with clinical, safety, and regulatory standards, including both federal and state regulations.
  • Implement best practices in accordance with national guidelines, professional standards, and accreditation requirements.

Required Qualifications*

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in health services administration, Business Administration, Nursing Leadership, Public Health, or related health care field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare administration with significant responsibility for leading multidisciplinary teams, departments, and/or service lines. 
  • Proven ability to lead within a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong financial and analytic acumen, including funds flow design across large, complex health systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, financial management, project leadership, and performance improvement.
  • Strong ability to manage change management and conflict resolution 

Desired Qualifications*

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Women's Health care administration, and in an administrator-physician leadership model.
  • Institutional knowledge of UM Health clinical enterprise structure, culture, and operational practices across AMC and regional care settings strongly preferred.
  • Experience with philanthropy, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Knowledge of unionized environments and collective bargaining agreements.

Reporting Structure

Women's Health Service Line Administrator will report to the Chief Nursing and Operations Executive with an indirect reporting to the Regional President of UMH.

Background Screening
