The Nurse Informaticist transforms data into needed information and leverages technologies to improve health and healthcare equity, safety, quality, and outcomes. They have specialized knowledge and expertise in health informatics, a multidisciplinary field that combines nursing science with information management and analytical sciences. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to implementing and optimizing health information systems, data management and analytics, training and education, quality improvement, project management, policy and compliance, communication, and research as applied to improving patient care and optimizing nursing workflows.
The Nursing Informatics department at Michigan Medicine works collaboratively with all of Nursing, Allied Health Partners, Office of Clinical Informatics, and Health Information Technology and Services, across all patient care areas to assess, plan, integrate and execute clinical technologies across patient care. This team helps develop policy, procedure, and workflows to enhance proficiency and effectiveness in a manner consistent with the enterprise level model of care, ideal patient care experience, and approved standards of care, while utilizing informatics principles and tools, particularly in relation to the Electronic Health Record.
