The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN), Office of Undergraduate Studies is seeking an Instructional Learning Senior. This role enhances student learning through co-curricular programming-such as open office hours, one-on-one tutoring, exam review sessions, and structured exam preparation workshops-designed to supplement didactic coursework. In this student-facing position, the Instructional Learning Senior meets regularly with learners who need additional academic support, connecting them with appropriate campus resources when necessary. They also co-lead Science Learning Circle sessions in collaboration with student leaders, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. The Instructional Learning Senior also participates in undergraduate program meetings and science-focused initiatives to support continuous improvement in student learning and success.

Supervision is received from the Director(s) of Undergraduate Nursing Education.

• Provide innovative and inclusive instructional support through co-curricular activities (e.g., open office hours, exam prep learning sessions) that support students in their didactic/lab courses with supplemental activities and resources.

• Collaborate with the Faculty of Record to ensure supplemental resources align with course content

• Meet regularly with students in the sciences to support their learning needs (e.g., 1:1 tutoring, open office hours, exam review, and exam preparation sessions)

• Meet with students needing additional support regularly, connecting them to needed resources (as applicable)

• Work with the faculty of record to support the anatomy lab. 

• Lead the Science Learning Circle sessions in collaboration with student leads.

• Work closely with course faculty, student advisors, the Conway Scholars coordinator, and UG leadership to manage student issues that arise in the basic science courses

• Participate in undergraduate meetings and science-specialty focused sessions. 

• A Bachelor's degree, nursing preferred. Master's degree preferred.
• Deep understanding of basic sciences with experience in education pedagogy and didactic instruction.
• Demonstrated basic knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Demonstrated basic knowledge of the features and capabilities of basic multimedia equipment, including video equipment.
• Demonstrated experience at the intermediate level in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook), Win2000, XP, Windows 10, Mac OS, and other types of databases.
• Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums.
• Strong relationship-building skills are essential, including a positive communication style and the ability to work collaboratively with others.

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some office hours, and student activities will occur in the evenings.  Occasional weekends may be required.
