Join us at CAEN, the University of Michigan's Engineering IT Department, where innovation meets education! We are seeking a dedicated professional to serve as our Testing Facility Manager. In this role, you will lead the operations of the College of Engineering's new Engineering Testing Facility (ETF), a new Computer-Based Testing Facility (CBTF) coming to North Campus.
As part of overseeing our testing facility, you will manage all aspects of the facility's day-to-day operations, including exam scheduling, load balancing, and the critical coordination of student accommodations to ensure an equitable testing environment for all students. You will be the expert in the facility's specialized workflows, analyzing and evaluating courses of action to improve operational efficiency and student experience. As part of CAEN, you are part of a deep network of technical experts. While you lead the day-to-day of the facility, you will have access to their expertise to assist with technical issues and concerns. 

This position offers a unique opportunity to lead a high-impact project from launch through steady-state growth. You will be responsible for hiring, training, and supervising a diverse team of over 20 student staff members who facilitate testing sessions seven days a week. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with faculty advisors, instructional teams, and departments across the University to support the migration of assessments to utilize this facility.

Note on Work Environment: This position is a fully onsite role located on North Campus to ensure the seamless, in-person management of testing operations and staff.

• Coach and mentor your team of 20+ student staff.
• Manage the complex testing schedule, balancing the needs of different courses and thousands of students.
• Administer the core software assessment platforms, including PrairieLearn, PrairieTest, and specialized staff scheduling software. 
• Be the go-to person for faculty, helping them understand how to best use the facility and its software for their exams.
• Dive into the data to create snapshots and stats for College leadership.
• Swap ideas with partners across campus to stay up to date on best practices in computer-based testing.
• Handle the logistics, from hiring new student faces and scheduling shifts to managing the budget for staff pay and testing supplies.
• Support the technology to ensure everything runs smoothly.
• Create and refine documentation and operating procedures.

• Bachelor's degree in a field requiring analytical or computational thinking
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a role involving facility management, program coordination, or administrative management.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience directly hiring, training, and supervising a team (must have evidence of managing at least 5+ individuals simultaneously).
• 2+ years of experience working within a university setting, specifically interacting with faculty and students.
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in an academic setting with a documented history of supporting student programs or instructional initiatives.
• Proven experience managing a complex, recurring schedule (e.g., staff rotations, facility booking, or event calendars) using digital scheduling tools.
• Experience writing formal documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training manuals, or department-wide policy updates.
• Experience acting as the primary point of contact for operational or logistical issues in a customer-facing or student-facing environment.
• Professional proficiency with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Forms).
• Demonstrated ability to use data for organization and reporting (e.g., intermediate Excel/Sheets with formulas, or basic scripting/coding) and a clear track record of learning and adopting new software platforms quickly.
• Demonstrated proficiency with complex software tools
• Demonstrated ability to perform basic hardware and software troubleshooting (e.g., resolving connectivity issues, peripheral setup, or software updates) without immediate escalation.

• A Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
• Prior experience using assessment or testing platforms (e.g., PrairieTest, Canvas, Gradescope, or similar).
• Experience with coding and software administration
• Experience in monitoring a budget, including approving student payroll or managing procurement of supplies.
• Experience working with or implementing ADA/SSD accommodations in a professional or educational setting.
• Proven success in leading workshops or training sessions to help non-technical users (like faculty) adopt new technology.
• Evidence of self-directed learning of new technologies (e.g., certifications in new software, participation in IT pilot programs, or a history of transitioning manual processes to digital workflows).
