Job Summary

 

The Kaczorowski Lab is currently seeking motivated individuals to fill multiple positions for Research Lab Technician (Senior/Lead). The lab investigates mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disease and uses transgenic mouse models to advance the understanding of brain function, behavior, and cellular biology. We provide a collaborative and supportive environment with opportunities for skill development and hands-on training.

Responsibilities*

 

The successful candidate will participate in animal handling, animal behavior assays, mouse genotyping, immunohistochemistry, and assisting with the management of transgenic mouse colonies. We are looking for someone that has the aptitude to learn new techniques, works well with others, and possesses strong critical thinking skills.

  • Help maintain lab organization and record all information, daily, in an official laboratory notebook.
  • Assist with experiments that involve mouse handling and animal behavior assays.
  • Support the maintenance and organization of mouse colonies, including involvement in genotyping and genetic crosses.
  • Aid in mouse tissue dissection and preparation for downstream applications.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with laboratory protocols, equipment operation, and standard techniques, or show aptitude to learn these quickly.
  • Participate and present data in periodic research discussions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and achieve short- and long-range plans.
  • Monitor laboratory instrumentation, ensuring proper functioning and performing routine maintenance as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, according to research or lab needs.

Required Qualifications*

 

Senior Level: 

  • Bachelors degree required and 2-4 years of experience in a related field
  • 2+ years of direct experience with in vivo mouse handling in a research setting including handling, behavior, and tissue collection

     

Lead Level: 

  • Bachelors degree required and 4+ years of experience in a related field
  • 3+ years of direct experience with in vivo mouse handling in a research setting including handling, behavior, and tissue collection

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis (training will be provided)
