Job Summary

 

The University of Michigan Towsley Children's House has an opening for a Child Care Center Teacher.  We are seeking an educator who chose a career in early childhood education because of the positive, lasting impacts their work has on children and families.  

The U-M Children's Centers provide care for close to 500 children of faculty, staff and students from all over the world.  The centers employ over 120 staff members.  The play based programs are designed by teaching teams adapting to meet the needs and interests of the children.  We maintain low teacher to child ratios so relationships can flourish.  Additional information about the U-M Children's Centers can be found at www.childcare.umich.edu.  

As a teacher in our program, you will work with children, families and coworkers from diverse backgrounds, cultures and abilities.  You will grow in your profession through regular professional development opportunities and will share your unique experiences and creativity while collaborating with coworkers.  Teaching staff report directly to the center Director.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Provide developmentally appropriate early learning experiences for children enrolled in the program 
  • Effectively manage groups of young children within state required ratios to ensure a safe and supportive environment 
  • Collaborate with children, families, and colleagues to cultivate an environment of respectful relationships 
  • Use technology to document and reflect on the experiences of children for the purpose of assessment, planning and family engagement

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience as defined by child care licensing
  • Minimum of 2 years in a similar role in a diverse childcare setting
  • Familiarity with a variety of early childhood education methods and theories

Additional Information

 

This role is primarily onsite with occasional remote work offered based on Center business needs.  Flexible scheduling may also be considered (i.e. 4 10 hour work days or possible alternate schedules) and will vary by Center.
