Job Summary

 

The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Public Safety (DPS), a department of the U-M Division of Public Safety (DPSS),  is hiring a Security Specialist. Reporting to the Emergency Manager and Infrastructure Security Coordinator, this role provides operations support and customer service to support our video surveillance, campus access control, and information technology systems. 

Responsibilities*

 

Operations Support

  • Manage inventory for access cards and key supplies.
  • Support video surveillance technology.
  • Update databases; monitor, distribute, and keep records of issued access cards and key inventory. 
  • Assist in the deployment of applicable IT equipment.
  • Support and respond to special requests for system data.
  • Provide support for access control systems, video management systems, and physical security systems
  • Provide backup system support for the Department of Public Safety hardware and software systems
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Customer Service

  • Provide front-line customer service 
  • Prepare and issue photo identification access cards for campus faculty, staff, students, and affiliates while adhering to policies and procedures
  • Track and issue keys and maintain cores for campus access control.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with the responsibilities related to this position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have the ability to operate University vehicles.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Must have written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive information in strictest confidence.
  • Proven ability to work independently, multitask, and prioritize assignments and deadlines.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 
  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience

Modes of Work

 

Onsite

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.
 

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to

Additional Information

 

All members of the Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report Clery reportable offenses that come to your attention. DPSS employees are required to complete Clery Compliance Training within the first 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
 

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $34,300 -$42,900
