Responsibilities*

 
  • Provide safe, effective, and specialized nursing care in the ambulatory care Pediatric Diabetes clinic.

  • Clinical duties include:

    • Coordinate and provide focused nursing care in an ambulatory care setting for pediatric and adult patients and families for the Pediatric Diabetes patient population at the University of Michigan.

    • Active participation in collaborative problem solving with multidisciplinary teams across practice settings and the continuum of care both within and external to Michigan Medicine.

    • Support and provide patient care in the clinic setting with inclusive of patient and family education and care coordination in group and individual sessions.

    • Develop and implement educational materials, standards, methods, and tools to improve patient care.

    • Acts on behalf of patients and families to ensure care that is safe and appropriate with consideration for values, diversity, and human rights. 

    • Provides telephone management which includes triage of calls from patients, caregivers, clinicians, and other healthcare team members.

    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives at the institutional, local, state, regional, national, and/or international level.

    • Provide education to relevant representatives from community agencies and school leaders.

    • Coordinate activities for the pediatric diabetes self-management education program certified by the State of Michigan which includes: 

      • Monitoring program standards

      • Maintaining clinical database

      • Submission of annual report

    • Maintain a high level of professional conduct with minimal direct supervision and be highly motivated to provide excellent care and patient advocacy.

  • Demonstrated accountability and dependability for example, completion of work, mandatories, and goal setting within established timelines.

Required Qualifications*

 
  •  Bachelors degree in Nursing - OR - Associates degree or diploma in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing

  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Michigan.

  • Minimum three (3) years nursing experience. 
  • Three (3) years within the last five (5) years Pediatric RN experience
  • BLS certification

Desired Qualifications*

 

 

 

  •  Current certification as a Diabetes Educator
  • Minimum one (1) year recent (within the last five years) ambulatory care RN experience

  • Demonstrated experience with pediatric diabetes population 

  • Experience developing patient education materials

  • Experience with MiChart, EPIC, Cisco Finesse, Word, and Excel

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the  Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:

CCC- COMPETENT.

Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

RSAM levels range from CCC-COMPETENT to CCC-EXPERT TO CCC-MASTERY to CCC- MASTERY PLUS.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

Hourly range for RSAM Competent, Registered Nurses $43.10-$67.03/ hour  

Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour 

Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour

Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour

Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour

 Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

 

Hours/Week: 40 hours/week

Shift/Hours/Days: Day Shift; Monday-Friday (hours are variable), due to patient needs and volume demands, weekends and holidays.

Location: University of Michigan Campus and other work locations as needed to support patient populations seen in other locations.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
