The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 50% effort for the Fall Term 2026.  This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2026 and end on December 31, 2026.

Duties of these Lecturer I positions are expected to include teaching, developing course materials, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours. A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer I in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester.  Full-time and part-time positions are available.

Course Title(s): Biology 305: Genetics

Course Objectives: This introduction to genetics includes the following sections: DNA and chromosomes; gene transmission in Eukaryotes; linkage and recombination; genes and enzymes, the genetic code, and mutation; recombinant DNA, RFLP mapping, the Human Genome Project; gene regulation, transposons; population genetics; and quantitative genetics.

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in ecology, evolutionary biology, or a related discipline, with a background or focus on genetics, including proficiency in population and molecular genetics. The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching in the United States. 

Ph.D. in Biology preferred with at least 3 years of undergraduate biology teaching experience. Qualified candidates should be fluent in the area of expertise (ecology, evolution, and genetics) and demonstrate excellent teaching skills.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
